What you say about the money issue onthefence, it's exactly like my upbringing. I remember when I was about 8 being pulled out of the line before assembly by my teacher saying ' look everyone, doesn't Gaynor look lovely in a skirt !'
I went red and nearly died on the spot. I liked skirts, but my sister didn't, and as I got all her clothes, this was one skirt my mother forced her to get, that had been passed down.
my best friend had a womble ( when they were the rage )to play with at school and I had a furry pencil case with a face on it !
Like you, I don't blame my parents, both worked, but it was obvious they struggled financially, and I'm sure this was one of the reasons I chose cf.
Lack of money stings when you're a kid, and others have and you don't - which is why I worked weekends from 14, and why my main focus was getting a job that paid well once I realised after I left home how difficult it is to pay the bills AND have a social life !
