As much as people probably would caution me to do otherwise, I don't ever feel the need to filter things on my facebook page. I have a right to speak as freely as I choose, friends, family or not. I make no secret of my child-free status nor my being homosexual, I have no reason to be ashamed of either. If someone doesn't like that, that's okay too, they have that right to their own opinions. If they wish to voice it, that's their right too, I may even discuss the issue with them if their being polite enough. If their being nasty, I make a point to ask them to be a bit more polite when making their point. Most feel bad and apologize, some don't care at all. I just don't feel like I should hide my choices on my OWN page when everyone else is free to do as they choose without hassle. Guess I should try to hide it, but it's never been my style =)

Living your life in hiding leaves the extra stress of wondering/fearing when people will find out about the "real" you.
You are wise to lead your life in an open way. Some people never learn that.

I know what you mean - I really don't like hiding things, either. Unfortunately, for my husband and I, now, it's necessary.
Most of my family is okay with my decision, so I can be somewhat open with them - although, I have to make sure I don't say anything that's TOO harsh.
I don't like to have to accommodate others. In studying Buddhism, I've found an interesting way to look at this: censoring my FB page for some people reduces their stress, and in conjunction, reduces the amount of suffering in the world. The anger that they feel at my post can/may be redirected at their spouse/children/pets, etc. By not saying caustic things...by making use of foresight...I can avoid this.
I'm not really afraid that they'll figure out the "real me". I'm pretty confident that they know how I feel, relating to CF.
Another reason I censor is that I don't want to appear to be two-dimensional. I don't think about this subject all the time...I give/donate to charity, I'm studying Buddhism, I crochet/draw/paint/cross-stitch/craft, I read books, I'm supportive of the Fat Acceptance movement...there is a lot about me that doesn't necessarily show on my FB page. So, even though being CF is important to me, I don't really want to give my friends and family the impression that this issue is all I think/care about.
<stepping off of soapbox> :D

I get what you mean Audrey, simply not talking about something does not mean you are hiding it. But, I myself am more like Jen. I don't think a single one of my FB friends are unaware of my CF status. I am very vocal about my dislike for children, although I am happy for my friends when they get what they want out of life.

I think that if an individual was truely happy about their choice to have kids then they wouldn't get all defensive if someone stated that they didn't want them or stated their opinion that having kids was not a good idea. It makes me think she is getting mad because deep down she doubts if having kids was really the best choice for her. If she was happy why would she give cr@p about about what anyone else says or does?

I read often in this forum, how CFs get the impression from women who post/talk about their kids all the time, that they have no life outside their kids. Or how we think that people who are judgmental of the CF choice are actually jealous at some level. If a CF makes too many CF comments in a non-CF environment... I don't know, I am generalizing here, but others might draw similar conclusion, even if they are not true.

Yep, Jennifer B., there is a Fat Acceptance movement: it encompasses legislation, activism, fashion, art - you name it.
My favorite FA blogs are: Two Whole Cakes (activism, with a good dose of humor), The Rotund (humor, fashion, activism, etc.), Big Fat Blog (they really stay on top of any news item related to fatness); The-F-Word (Food, Fat, and Feminism - I would add some funny, here as well), and 'Axis of Fat'.
If you need a laugh, make sure to search for 'Fat Satan' in Google - it should be the first one to pop up (it's at the old Fatshionista site, written by the same chick that writes on Two Whole Cakes).
My favorite artists are Ruben Esq (he has a terrific Myspace page with his art), LimeGreenSquid http://limegreensquid.deviantart.com/, and Les Toil http://www.toilgirls.com/
Good luck lurking in the Fatosphere! :D

You're very welcome. If you'd like to chat about fat (haha! I'm a poet, and don't know it! ) feel free to drop me a line.
Ciao! ♥
