1st Choice: "A Beautiful Mind" loosely-based story of John F. Nash, Jr., genius paranoid schizophrenic and Nobel Prize Laureate - , starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. Professor Nash is still living and teaching at Princeton University.

Close 2nd: "Nuts" story of a woman prostitute accused of murder and her ensuing trial, who is totally misunderstood, with hidden emotional and rage issues caused by her endurance of sexual abuse at the hands of her father. Beautifully and realistically portrayed by Barbra Streisand.

All of the movies mentioned are great!

"A Beautiful Mind" tops my list. I also liked "Rain Man" and "The Notebook." Others that weren't mentioned here include "Don Juan DiMarco" and "K-Pax"...not ground-breaking cinema but I liked them nonetheless.

Never saw "Nuts" but I will now.

Just saw the remake of Sybil the other night, thought it was great. Black Swan is a wonderful portrayal of mental illness, with more than one character exhibiting symptoms of illnesses, great comment on the pressures of an intense lifestyle. But my favorite has to be Vertigo because you can't watch it without feeling like you have it!

So many to choose from! I have to say my favorite is still "Play Misty for Me." I was 16, I think, when I saw that movie, and that woman sent chills through me. Clint Eastwood's character was so strong. He could give her some looks that were just unbelievable, and you just wanted to scream to him, "RUN!" Great question!

Yup, that was good -- so strange to see that actress on Retired at 35 on TV, it's so bad. Don't forget the two Queen Movies of horror -- still make me flinch -- Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Shutter Island was amazing, too. I had just found out the my grandfather died in '52 in a psych hospital, and the references in the book led me to read Mental Illness in America, which literally scared the **** out of me, reading all the horrid treatments that the mentally ill have suffered in the name of science. No fiction needed here to truly terrify!
