My sister told me that she's preparing Christmas cards with, guess what?! Yep, a big nice picture of her son on the cover...I just didn't answer and tried to hide as best as I could my expression of "are you kidding me?" Thing is, she's so into her son that I really believe she has NO clue what other ppl think.

I have a feeling the next 18 years will be all about her son, never mind HER and the excellent career she had. She had brains, a great sense of humor, looked good, used to work AND volunteer, and go out all the time with friends. She did it all. Now she never goes out and looks tired, doesn't take care of herself, and acts like even just talking takes great effort. Honestly, I don't recognize her. Oh, but guess what? She wouldn't have it any other way.

My parents are much older now, to be honest, I would cherish a photo of them. One time, my grandmother gave me a laundry basket with laundry detergent, new dish towels, aluminum foil, etc... She worried so that I would think it was a cheap present. I hugged her big time! To be honest I was so happy to get it (as expensive as those things are...lol...). It was the perfect gift! I smile today, thinking of it.

Though I do understand that there are people that just cant give a good gift, and some that are just being cheap. There are also those that can't afford it (even if I think they can).

My mom does Christmas shopping all year long, and hides them all over the house and actually forgets some so she spends a full year finding them around her house.

Not to minimize anyone for feeling the way they do - totally understandable. I know my pleasure at these gifts probably do sound ridiculous, but they make me happy :-)
