Using social bookmarking sites like Digg.com, Stumbleupon.com, Del.icio.us, Furl.com and Reddit.com are excellent choices to store important places you've found on the internet that you would hate to lose. LOL, Jilly I just discovered these this week. It does take time to set up and figure out - but once you do this, it is easy. Thanks for the nice comments, guys! I will reiterate that StumbleUpon is GREAT fun but can be addicting. You can stay up all night hitting Stumble, Stumble, Stumble....lol
Delicious is really the best and simplest purely for cloud bookmarking.

Well, Twitter is not a social bookmarking site; it's a social network. Not that you can't post links there, but Twitter is not set up for personal data retrieval. Same with Facebook. Whereas Delicious, Stumble, Reddit, Digg and others of that ilk are specifically designed for a person to find posted links.

Hey Jill,
I've got to agree with the others. That article was just what I've been looking for. I'm one of those people who's gotten so far behind the eight ball on social bookmarking & networking that I thought I'd never catch up. A simple, basic introduction is really helpful for those of us who are no longer in the under-30...or even under-40 crowd!
I was just looking at some of my old browser bookmarks the other day. They're so out-of-date, probably all defunct, and in bad need of clean-up. There are bookmarks in there about diapers and strollers, and my kids are teenagers now! I think I'm going to give Delicious a try.
Thanks for a great article, Maria

Hi Jilly, I use Twitter with my blog and some other info I want to get out there. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by WESH Channel 2 TV about being unemployed for 2 years before finding the job I now have - twitter got it out there (lol). This is why I changed the name of my blog from "Surviving Unemployment" to "A Story of Hope".....
Any tips to pass my way?
Do you use Twitter?
Does anyone else use it?

I just started using it in the last couple months, for the same purpose you did--to get information "out there". I tweet all my blog posts, and since I started writing for BellaOnline, I've tweeted all my article postings here. Don't know if it's helped or not, but at least I'm trying to fit in...LOL. One important thing I learned about Twitter is that you can include hashtagged words in your tweet, like #contest or #ebook, meaning "my tweet is with regard to this topic". Other people who are searching for information on that topic can search for the hashtagged term and discover all the relevant tweets. Ooh, I feel so "with it" for sharing that information! --Maria

LOL Maria, yes I found out about the # while reading the "help" section of the twitter site.
Like you, I am trying to get BRAVE and go out and explore.
At age 52, I am finally getting out of my "rut" and actually starting to ENJOY all this technology.
But I am still iffy on Paypal.
I just don't like the fact that you have to reveal so much personal info and then link it to your bank account. Yikes!!!!
But I would love to be able to make some online income - so who knows. I may go ahead and set up a separate bank account at another bank and give it a try.

I tweet all of my online writing business articles - except commissions obviously - those will be publicized by the clients who buy the pieces. I often wonder how much they know about article promotion and search optimization. Maybe I should start offering an extra promotion service... (Twitter would definitely be part of the package!)

People are tweeting and Facebooking their self publishing books as well. I must get around to doing that myself for my e book publishing pieces! The trouble is there's now so much opportunity for promotion, you don't know which method or social networking site to choose! On my freelance writing business site I always advise my content buyers to stick their newly bought articles on their Facebook/Twitter home pages.
