I have never been wealthy but I certainly do not feel poor. If I had lots of money I don't know if I would know what to do with it, because, as I do not usually have money, as I do not work outside the house, when I do have money I always think, 'Do I really need this or that?' and more often I don't need it.

Good question. I don't know that I would want to be rich, money sometimes breeds unhappiness. I would like to be comfortable, earning it by doing something I love.

I am currently reading a book called The 4 Hour Work Week. The author says most people don't really want a million dollars, they want the lifestyle that a million dollars can buy.

He outlines a process in his book for acquiring the money to get whatever amount you determine will fulfill your dreams of the life you want. He says that most people's idea of the perfect job is the one that makes the most money in the least amount of time.

I would say that is partially right. If you could make the money you needed to support your lifestyle in a few hours a week, you could then devote the rest of your time to doing whatever you wanted to do, traveling, volunteering, whatever.

After the first of the year, I plan to put his proces to the test. At this point in my life, I don't really want to travel the world but it would be nice to have a steady income so I could feel free to donate to causes I believe in or spend my time volunteering. To me that would make the money fulfiling.

Monica, Thanks for sharing your story. Having been on both ends of the spectrum making money and being unhappy and being happy without the money, makes your story all the more powerful. I had to get over a lot of attitudes that kept wealth from me. I grew up in a household where money--or the lack of--caused a lot of stress and turmoil. And then in religious terms, money was the root of all evil. Wanting money meant greed. Having money meant being selfish. Money was a bad thing.

But then, I learned that money is just a tool, like the media. People are greedy and selfish but money itself is an inanimate object. Now, I know that money is a useful tool.

I think one has to be able to say, "I like money. I want money. I deserve money" before he can attract money or hold onto money in his life.

I'm finally getting there. As for the original thread topic, I *am* rich by my definition. And I got rich by feeling rich and appreciating all the abundance in my life now.

And doing what I love to do...:)

I am new here my self. I just want to say as a person who has been unemployed for months, I have been online opening myself up to new possible methods of making an income of some sort from home. I think if we just think positive, we will find something but its always a timing factor.

I think time and patience are two very important factor that will help you in becoming rich. Apart from these 2 factors there are other 2 which will help you in getting richer day by day. One is strong will power and other is sacrifice. With a strong will power you will be able to avoid buying and sacrificing those unnecessary things that leads to misuse of money.
