Does anyone still rent movies? If so where do you rent them from Netflix, Blockbuster, Video store?
I was thinking of trying Netflix, my brother in law was telling us about it last night. I still like the $1.00 Video store. Something about wandering around the aisles and checking out the covers is relaxing to me.

I use Netflix and I love it! We don't order a lot of movies but we use the video streaming service all the time. The downside to the video streaming is that there is not a lot of new releases available via streaming - the upside is there is always something to watch without having to go to thre video store!

We were doing the blockbuster mail-home service. But I just canceled that and plan on doing Netflix. My kids want something that video streams.
I've never streamed a video - but I imagine the first time I do I'll be hooked.
Though, I'm bummed - my hubby and I just got through the 2nd DVD of the 2nd season of Fringe - and now I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait to pick it up again.

That is the one thing that stinks about Netflix. We watched 2 seasons of Secret Diary of A Call Girl and were hooked and then the third season never made it so we had to "borrow" it from our online friend at (wait, I can't say).

Sounds like it's Netflix as a popular choice. MY BIL likes the streaming video thing. It sounded technically over my head...lol...
The library is great, but the selection isn't the greatest.

I highly recommend checking out hulu.com for movies (free) before renting anything - they have a big list and are adding stuff all the time.
i watch all my TV from hulu, so i do not have to hav cable. And I hav caught up on many series via hulu.

I know someone who gets DVDs from the library - and sometimes they are a buck, sometimes they are free We get DVDs from our library for free! Our library system has a home delivery service, but due to the economy they stopped offering DVDs via home delivery awhile back. So now we're limited to what they have available when we visit a branch. Luckily they still offer home delivery for books!

Unfortunately our library never has anything worth renting except for little kids or documentaries. I did get a cool Martha Graham documentary a while back.

The current titles are always out. When I get them from the library I have to put in a hold request to get on the reservation list. Due to the budget, however, the library started charging 25 cents for each hold. Fortunately, the fee is waved for library employees.
Melissa, home delivery, wow - that sounds awesome!
Jilly, I keep forgetting about Hula. That's an excellent choice as well.
I just miss the days when on Friday, the husband, kids and I would troop to the video store and spend time wondering around picking out movis to watch and buying te popcorn to go with it.

I get my movies from a few places, I go to the studio press screenings when I have time. Then I have Blockbuster online, which acts just like Netflix, and then I actually go into Blockbuster stores and rent.
But my favorite new way to acquire films is at garage sales. I just got a whole box of hit films for $5.00
YEA! SCORE!
So you can still walk around Blockbuster stores.....while they are around. I am not sure exactly what, if anything will happen to the video stores. boo hoo

You can also go directly to the stations, abc.com, for instance, and watch the shows there. That is how I watch tv as well. Even HBO will usually have the first show of the season for free. Then when the season is over, I rent the entire season and devour it in a few sittings, instead of waiting each week for the next juicy morsel of the story.

If I go to Blockbuster, I head straight for the 4 movies for $20 table. Otherwise, our local library actually has a good selection for free, and it has some available at booksales. Also, resale shops and gargage sales are a good source. My latest find was at a resale shop for $1.
Oh, I'm member of the paperbackswap.com. Great deal for books. Well, they have a sister site for DVDs. My intent is to try it out. Have any of you used the DVDswap site?

In November of 2009 I moved to a small town where everything is in French so no more movie theatres and renting for me since then (there are 2 small video stores...DVDs are supposed to be bilingual but no job so i cant rent and buy on PPV...could not even buy The Dark Knight Rises so i am STILL waiting to see that movie!!!!!!!!!). Thankfully I still can afford a satellite dish so I see my movies on movie channels (uncensored!!!! when its the first time i watch them on channels with no commercials).
