If you travel to Stonehenge then you should also go to nearby Averbury. It's a huge henge and avenue which you can wander around and touch the stones.*
Then drive the short distance to Silbury Hill, an ancient conical hill man-made for purposes unknown. Unfortunately you can no longer climb it because of erosion but park in the layby opposite and walk up to West Kennet Long Barrow (on the ridge overlooking it,) a lonely prehistoric burial chamber which you can enter.
All this can be done in a summers day. As Lisa & I did in 2005. Lisa's photos of Stonehenge, Avebury, Silbury Hill and the barrow are on her site here
www.lisashea.com/lisastrips/yr2005/davinci/sat/ - there are about 8 pages of photos, just click the link at the bottom to go to next page. It rained much of the time

*(nowadays the Stonehenge circle is roped off, although if you stand a while, ignore the crowds and stare at them you begin to feel the mysteries)
