Thank you everyone. I love the idea Phyllis. It will make me get out and go for a walk, to find the right branch. And it will help me get closer to feeling okay about burying my baby.
Question - should i look at him? They gave him to me in his birth towel, wrapped with some baby blankets i had. Do i unwrap him and take a look? Stroke him and say goodbye?

Jilly, I agree with Rosie -- you must do what feels right to you. For me it is good to look upon a loved one to say that last and private "farewell for now". You must follow your own heart.

Okay, thank you. I am afraid i will look upon him and see pain, but maybe his face relaxed in death. I don't know how these things work. I really loved him, so so much.

I, too, agree with Rosie and Phyllis, you should do what feels right to you.
I have never looked at the cats we've lost before burial, but I was there for all but one when they either died or were euthanized. When I had to have my Chauncy put down (the first kitty I ever had to get euthanized), I couldn't be in the room with him (although I did hold him for a very long time before letting him go). I didn't feel like I was strong enough. To this day I so regret that and oftentimes I feel very guilty about it. At the time, though, I don't think I could have handled it. I couldn't even be outside when my husband buried him, but I did watch through the sliding glass door along with our three other kitties. Chauncy was my baby - the first cat who was really mine. He was with me through many life transitions and he even went to college with me. The next cat we lost, Sidney, died in my arms on the way to the animal hospital. After that I was able to be strong enough to be in the room with the others when we had to let them go.
Definitely follow your heart and do what feels right for you. What's right for one person might not be for someone else.

So sorry for you, Jill, I know too well how much it hurts. When I buried Oliver in July I wrapped him in a towel and buried him in a hole about 2 ft. deep, then I put a heavy planter full of impatience flowers on his grave, so no critters would dig it up. But then, the only animals around here that might do such a thing are raccoons and I don't think they can dig very deep. I wanted to take care of it all myself, because I felt that I owed it to Oliver to do that last service for him. It was hard, but then losing him was hard. Sometimes life sucks.
You will do what feels right for you and William, and it will hurt because you have a loving heart, and that's a good thing to have.

Guys, thank you for the advice and kindness. I have a 2.5 foot hole ready to go. It's supposed to start cooling off here a little and I think i will bury my little one then. I have a lot of rocks from the hole to pile on top.
I still have not walked to find a branch yet, because with it being over 100 degrees outside I just can't get out and walk until nighttime.
I think by the middle of the week things are supposed to go down about ten degrees, and that may be the time to do this.

I will be getting Faramir back this weekend - William's mother. Once she is settled back here, I am going to make this event happen. I'll plan it out in this forum.
