I know what you mean. There's nothing worse than trying to get out of a store so you can tackle the rest of your overloaded agenda and you got someone pulling out the check book to pay.

I actually need to get more checks this week - it's how I pay all my bills. I know I could do Bill Pay online but i am not mentally ready to learn that just yet. And I am excited to have checks with my own address on them! That will feel amazing!

BTW my town is so small that lots of places here do not take cards. And I don't like to carry cash - so checks it is!

So what check design did you end up going with? It's so cool that you get to enjoy checks that are personalized!

I finally went to the bank and got my checks. YAY! It was only $8 for the basic type and i picked a swirly design. It was a bummer that the bank didn't have checks made of recycled paper. I think every single check should be made of recycled fibers - it seems like such an easy thing.

When these run out i will order the online checks with recycled paper.

But in the meantime i am thrilled to have checks with my own address on them!!!!! My house, not a rental, not my parent's house!

Yay, Miss Jilly,

I still use checks. Not at the grocery store, but to pay bills (for example our Trash Collector is not electronically motivated at all) You either pay by check through the mail or call and they can process it electronically over the phone.

I also paid for school lunches via check into their lunch account. We are doing a cash exeriement this year.

Dianne, please share about your cash experiment! That sounds cool.

I got my checks on saturday in the mail. I was very excited...and then saw they's printed my Washington address on them! Yikes. So i went to the bank today to get my actual address on them.

So it will work out fine. i will have local checks plus two boxes of old address ones to use for mail-in uses, like bills, where they don;t care if your address is current. It's like a two for one deal. smile

We still pay our rent with a check. Our landlords are older and when we sent them bank check online when we first started online banking, they didn't "see it" because they want us to send it in the envelope they send us every month. They charged us a late fee that month! We straightened it out, but we decided we better not try to send them an online check again!!

I use checks for some bills, online for others. I don't like the online companies that make you authorize them to take your money automatically every month. (some of my utility companies do that) I want to look at the bill and make sure that it is OK before I pay it. Plus, one of my DDs is a letter carrier, so I always feel that I am helping pay her salary when I send a bill via USPS.
As a very small businessperson (an artist) I prefer having people pay me with checks or cash, because the CC fee I have to pay for processing a card sale takes a bite out of my profit that is small enough as it is.
