Ask a neighbour if you can get some hay from them or from the field yourself. You will probably have to let it spoil yourself though. Most farmers dont want spoiled hay.

I did change my mind about pallets and hay as a compost bin for myself, and decided that getting used tires and making stacks of them was cheaper (free) and smarter (better insulated). It's been working fantastically. I have been writing about that in this forum.

I did find a great free source of aged horse manure from freecycle, and have been spreading that on my sheet composting area. smile

According to sources I am reading, you can put meat and oils in any compost that is set up to work anaerobically. Which, of course, will stink a bit. smile I am going to be experimenting with an anaerobic bin at some point and will report on that.

I have not done an anaerobic bin yet. Right now the stray cats are very happy to eat any meat products I leave around, and that isn't too bad a thing.

Anyone try meat in their worm bins yet? Or have any ideas for composting meat/dairy?

It really gets me down when i see that no one i know composts. Well, almost no one.

We need another bin for pick up in front of people's houses - trash, recycling, and green wastes.
