I attended my sister in law's wedding this weekend. It was outdoors and the reception was outside under a tent. While I was eating, I noticed one of the groomsman's wife sitting at her table breastfeeding. I am very offended by breastfeeding at the table at somebody's wedding, no less. I made a comment quietly to my husband that it was inappropriate and she should have gotten up and gone into the sun room of the inn we were at, which was just up the hill. This lady must have heard me because she scowled at me...didn't get up...didn't put her breast and baby away...but scowled. The next day, I called my mom on the drive home just to talk, and told her about the lady, and I got yelled at because her baby "had a right to eat". She said it is time for me to stop hating babies. I DON'T hate babies. I spent most of the evening playing with the lady's 2 yr old who was running around unattended, surprise, IN THE SUN ROOM. Is anyone else offended by public breastfeeding? Or am I really a baby hater without knowing it?

I don't see anything wrong with it. Honestly if you didn't want to see it you didn't have to look. It's natural and she shouldn't have to go hide to feed her baby. It's a controversial issue I've even seen on tv, though. And lots of people feel the way you do.

It doesnt bother me at all either. But I know many others have an issue with it, so why flaunt it. Considering it was a wedding, she could have at least used one of those front cape things to provide some discretion.

But at the table!?! I had no choice but to look, as did the people sitting at her table, she was in line with my plate. I honestly felt it was classless to pull her breast out in the middle of a crowded party. Its a modesty thing.

I agree that she should be covered so that her entire breast isn't exposed. Nothing wrong with discretion.

Exactly...I mean, her husband didn't feel the need to walk all the way to the groom's suite to urinate, but, he ducked between the cars in the parking lot...cover your bits while others are eating.

no, you are not a bad person. I have breast fed all my kids, each for over a year. I would never had just hung my boob out there for all the world to see! I always used a light cover or blanket and it was never an issue. I think it's ridiculous for people to think it's ok to breast feed without being modest about it. And I totally support breast feeding.

I also support breast feeding, but i feel one should be discrete doing so. I would leave the room and find a nice quiet area where my baby and i wouldn�t be disdurbed, it�s more peaceful and you don�t have all those eyes staring at you, that makes me feel uncomfortable.

ewww. uh, people need to refrain from whipping a boob out during dinner ESPECIALLY at a formal event. I would not have been able to keep my food down if someone did that at the table I was at. please keep bodily fluids inside while at the dinner table - thank you! if that was my wedding I would have asked her to leave. not very classy!

I'm with you 100% on this. why couldn't she have bottled it? I am revolted whenever I see someone breast feeding in public. Sorry, but to me it is gross.

Yea, she could have bottled it. I was thinking when I read the initial breast that SURELY she was covered. To just pull out a boob...eh not cool.
