My experience is that if you've told someone what hurts your feelings and they keep doing it, the only thing that has an affect on them is when you, the target of a joke is no longer there.

That doesn't have to mean divorce. It could mean more that you find something to do or some other place to be or develop a group of friends outside of the home rather than spend your time with someone who finds it entertaining to make fun of you.

This only has a good effect when you genuinely have an interest outside of the home and want to be with the people who make you feel good about yourself.

Hello again, and sorry it took me so long to check back in. My family has been going through some serious health problems.

Anyway, looks like the zebra won't change its stripes. Maybe--just maybe--your husband really does not mean to hurt you but can't resist joking around. Many men are self-centered and immature. Does he show he loves you in other ways? Or do you think he is using his mean jokes as a way to show repressed anger? Only you and he know the answer to that.

Tell him to make jokes about anything other than you. That will show how clever he is. Putting you down is weak humor. Challenge him to come up with better jokes.

Try to get a sense of humor yourself by telling him really good jokes to make him laugh. Show him that is what true humor is. Anyone can say mean things about another person. That is bullying, not humor. Americans know the difference.

And then, I really would make a few mean comments about him to show him how it feels. He obviously lacks empathy.
