We have threads in here on one year goals and five year goals - but how do you TRACK your goals? How do you keep them visible in your mind, and feel delight as you approach them?

LOL. At this point it seems that I track things by looking at the old goals I wrote years ago in these forums and laughing at the things I thought i'd have done by now.

Other things, strangely, ended up taking care of themselves.

Your new goals sound like great goals and ones that are valuable to work towards!

So how to keep them visible in your life.

What if you put them on your desktop, as part of your background?

I have a file I call my "Almanac." Every quarter - usually on the first day of the season - I save a new version of it and adjust my goals based on the previous three months. I look forward to working on my Almanac each season. I just finished my Spring almanac last weekend. I like to set aside several hours in a chunk as a mini "retreat" to work on it and I go to a cafe and think about where my energy would be put to best use. My most recent Almanac was my simplest yet - I've found keeping my goals super straightforward helps me accomplish them. I try to keep my large scale goals to less than five.

Lisa,

As always, thank you for bringing up an important topic!

Dreaming, I love the idea of the almanac and Jill, you're right sometimes things are accomplished without any official planning.

I track my goals using websites--goalforit.com and 43things. I used to write goals down in my journal--where they would ultimately get lost and forgotten! I'd read back in my journals several years later and say "hey, that was a great idea, why didn't I ever follow up?" And it's because once I turned the next page after writing the goal down, I wouldn't think about it again. Places like goalforit are only for goals, so it's much easier for me to keepo track.

Now I keep lists on these websites. Goalforit also has a section for kids, which is really, really cute. I'm using it for my son and daughter.

Leah,
Excellent point about goals getting lost in journals. I love going back through my writings to see what was important to me at certain times in my life, but it's also a bit depressing to see goals that I've written again and again but haven't moved forward on. I guess that's where tracking your goals really comes in. It's wonderful to have them, but if you don't keep track, then they're just things you might sort of want to do.

Dreamingfish,
I LOVE the idea of a seasonal almanac! My first goal is to set up up smile

Hugs,
Deb.
