My latest article looks at the re-make of the classic horror movie 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' A Nightmare on Elm Street re-make

Platinum Dunes are re-making the classic horror 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', they have refused to cast Robert Englund in the role as Freddy, a role he made. They are making Nancy into a Goth/loner, and Freddy into a paedophile instead of a child murderer. The first reviews have come in saying that the producers have gone for a PG13 - with Freddy?!? Also it's apparently full of stereotypical characters and scenes stolen from the original films. Here's the Link to the review:
First review of Elm St re-make test screener from COOL NEWS

This is the company that have brought us all terrible re-make after re-make and are making a huge dent in the credibility of the horror genre. They have recently re-made, ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘The Hitcher’, ‘The Amityville Horror’, ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’,'The Hills Have Eyes' and they are going to be re-making Hitchcock’s classic ‘The Birds’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ –all classic genre films tainted.

But what do you guys think about a company which is making money off other people's original ideas? A company only making re-makes?

These guys are a disgrace in my opinion, but apparently they will listen to fans opinions. Even though I doubt this very much. Because there have already been three petitions against the re-make of ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ with thousands of signatures, but these people don’t seem to care. If you want original horror, and don’t want your classic tainted by this disgraceful company – you can make your voice heard here: This is one of the producers' blogs and he wants fans opinions...

Give your views to the producer of the re-make on his blog

Apparently, the producers want to know what you think. Most people here will know that 'Nightmare' is my all time favourite film, and I’ve been trying to help stop this re-make from the start. It breaks my heart to see a perfect film tainted by this company, and the script only gets worse. I'm urging people to boycott this movie if they're a fan of the seminal original 84 classic, and spread the word about Platinum Dunes and what they are doing to the horror genre.

Just to add, of course some re-makes are brilliant, you only have to look at 'The Fly or 'The Thing' - but these were very diffferent movies to the originals, and this company isn't delivering any original material. As there are a lot of writers here, don't you guys agree that it's unfair to not give new script writers with new ideas a chance?

I can't stand remakes. I saw the "Psycho" remake and it was exactly like Alfred Hitchock's film only different actors and in color. It was just stupid. I also hate when the English companies remake Japanese movies. The Japanese films are great (like "One Missed Call") and then the English remake sucks and ruins the movie. If they do this remake I will probably watch it only cause I love the original's and own them.

If I have never seen the original, it doesn't bother me as much. If I have seen it sometimes it's nice to see it a little fresher but there is never anything like the original version of a movie.

The remakes of the movies you listed ended up being more slasher than horror, imo. The original Nightmare On Elm Street was good. The rest, eh, not so great, but not all were HORRIBLE. It won't be the same without Englund as well. No one can play Freddy like he did. Also, I think in the original, wasn't he a pedophile in it as well? Which is why the parents all got together to kill him?

No, Freddy was a child murderer, I guess people just assume a lot of the time that a child killer is also a peadophile, it was originally in Wes Craven's script, but he removed it - thinking that a child murderer would be enough. I agree it wont be the same without Robert. The only way to stop all these pointless re-makes, is to not see them IMO. So I'll be boycotting it - because I love the original. I don't see the point of paying to see a near exact replica of a film. Especially when the original writer's ideas and characters have been basically stolen. As a writer myself, I can't imagine how upset he must be to have strangers do whatever they want with his creation, also his most famous and respected creation frown

Kyle Gallner who appeared in the movie The Haunting in Connecticut has signed up for another horror flick, this time a classic as one of the teens terrorized by Freddie Krueger in the latest reincarnation of the franchise film.

There would be a lot of new things added to the tried and tested formula starting with Jackie Earle Haley who would now be donning the gloves and the striped shirt in this latest version of the movie. To know more about Kyle Gallner log into its a great blog site which provides latest information about celebrity.

Thanks Michelle, I will LOL wink
It's not a "reincarnation - it's a blatent rip off from rip off company experts 'Platinum Dunes' who wouldn't know an original idea if it slapped then in the face, and boy do I wish it would, all it does is take original ideas from the series (but mostly from the original film and rehash them with new actors who are willing to take their clothes off)
I don't care if Meryl Streep is starring in it - it's going to be trash. I've read the script, and besides all of their "re-imagining's" are simply awful. It's a sweater not a shirt - and Jackie Earle may have the face to play kruger, but he shouldn't be going anywhere near a role that was created on screen by another actor who has been told he can't reprise his role because he's too old. Not to mention the fact that this company has stolen the material. Wes Craven who wrote this story and these characters hasn't even been asked for his blessing towards the film, he has been completley shut out - and has said that he's hurt as it is his most iconic film and his personal favorite. I find this whole thing an utter disgrace - it makes my blood boil. Kyle is a very poor replacement for Johnny Depp, the characters are all stereotyped and it's substituting gore for storyline and character development as per usual these days. Why Hollywood can't come up with any new material is beyond me. The film is a classic and is still young - it doesn't need a re-make, nothing warrents it but greed of a companyAnd it's Freddy.

My daughter told me that there was going to be another Freddy movie. Is it true? I haven't seen any trailers or anything.
