What or where is the best solo vacation you went on?

Mine - I left the family and spent 4 days in Disney World doing the "adult" stuff - i.e. Epcot - that kids very seldom enjoy.

New Jersey - I went to my favorite huge outdoor flea markets doing some antiquing.

A road trip! It's wonderful to just get in the car with some great music, drive and enjoy the scenery. Just make sure you go somewhere beautiful, and plan lots of fun stops along the way.

My favorite road trip (solo) was probably the Cotswolds of England.... lots of tiny, storybook villages to travel through, walk through, enjoy tea at, and all the cute shops, and it's very easy to get lost there, which makes it all the more fun in navigating. hehe A "detailed" map is a must! Driving on the left side of the road and all the round abouts just add to the fun. smile

I love road trips. And I love antiquing! But I have to say my best solo vacation was a spa weekend... I loved the luxury and peace of it, and it really did allow me to reset, rest, and come back with a positive state of mind. Somehow, when everyone else is taking care of me, all the things that normally clog my waking thoughts float away. And bringing the focus back to me on a walking-breathing-taking-care-of-myself basis doesn't seem a self-indulgent luxury, but is really the better plan.

I spent a week in Florida on the beach. The hotel had a great resturant where I could eat by the pool. I walked the beach constantly, read books. It was great quiet thinking time.

I love birding, and my best solo trips involve driving long distances and stopping at every wildlife preserve and national park I could find along the way. The longest was from N. Indiana to Monterey Bay CA. I went out along US 80 (or parallel roads) and came back on US 70 and took over 3 weeks.
I drive from here to Key West every February and try to go a different way each time. Last winter I went straight south to the Gulf, then along the coast; beautiful and fairly uncrowded.
I'm heading up into Ontario tomorrow to bird Point Pelee for a few days.
