i just sign in this forum, and start to notice (maybe a little?) that it looks like we versus them. i dont have kids, i like them a lot, but like many womens and couples in this forum i think that not everybody HAVE TO have kids. like somebody said. "the colonies are already occupied". there is a woman, a writer and poet named molly peacock and her book called "paradise piece by piece" talking about the distinction between motherhood and womanhood and how for her the decision about having kids is one that is not something absolut, but constantly changing and rethink it about that. i agree with her. i dont have kids, i dont think that me and my husband will want kids in our future but being agressive about it, holding the torch of coolnes and how silly people chasing theirs kids in the park or how boring they are now that they are parents... just seems as wrong as some of them that seeing childless couple with a smirk look. what do you think? ( excuse for my english..is not my first lenguaje, but im improving.. )

Actually I think this seems like one of the (much) nicer forums; very open to fence-sitters and people with a child or grown children. there are some far nastier snarkier ones out there. In here nobody really preaches of hating children and parents here, it's very respectful.

Please...with all the [censored] we get from mothers I think we're more than entitled to share a little joke about them. I was just at a family Easter this weekend and talking to a friend who has two small children. He was hinting that I would have children someday, and I just flat out told him I didn't want any. His response: "Why is that, is it due to misconceptions about them?" How can you have misconceptions about something that's so in your face every day? I mean most of us have spent a fair amount of time around other people's kids...there's no big mysteries there.

I (and many people on this forum) don't want it to be "us against them" but society makes it this way. "We" are constantly under attack for our choice, and "they" never are..this makes even the best of us a little defensive. My decision is not "constantly changing" and I rarely rethink it, and if other people want to have kids that's fine with me.

I agree with you, Schnicky! why can't we have a joke or two. I don't really think it's "us against them." As you said, it can be difficult not to be a little defensive at times. Not all parents are anti-childfree...lol. Many of my parents friends have never had children.

"you think that you're glowing, but you've been ho-ing." hahahaha I love the "trivial" line, too!

I think it's sad that many feel that it's us vs them. I'm a parent and I'm definitely not anti-child free. I think everyone needs to make the decision that's best for them.
