One of the things I got recently from Avon was a fragranced body rinse. I used it like a soft soap in the shower - but what exactly IS a body rinse, as compared with a soap? Why not call it a soap?

Soap is actually a very specific item, made of specific ingredients, if you want to use actual terminology. So non-soap cleansers need to make up other creative names.

Is is a liquid form, spray or bar? I ask because it may be used to remove the heavy film that soaps can leave behind and also to condition the skin as well.

That's a good point Jilly. Other things I have are called a "body wash" which to me is a soap. But what is a "body rinse"? It sounds like it's rinsing something off the body, perhaps like Dragoncharmer said it rinses off soap?

It's like a lotion/gel cross, the one I have.

This perplexed me.

If it is designed to rinse off something like soap film, the packaging and marketing should say that, I would think. I am leaning toward the theory that it is just a fancy name for a body wash.

I pulled up an Avon product labeled as body rinse
(Avon Today TOMORROW Always Body Rinse)
and it just states that it cleanses and moisturizes, nothing more. I know the Avon director for my area and I will quiz her on it. If I find out that it designed with a purpose to rinse something off the skin, as opposed to a regular body wash, I will update this.

I was not aware there was such a thing as body rinse. Nowadays people come up with unusual names for new products, which is good.

The difference between body rinse and soap:
 Proper detergency without degreasing
Ability to form delicate and rich bubbling
 Easy rinsing
 Good finish after washing hair
 Minimal skin/eye irritation
 No damage to hair
 Low toxicity
 Good biodegradability

I hope it will help you to make difference.

A body rinse works much like a fabric softener does for our laundry. It's not meant to be your main cleansing product, but rather it's supposed to remove any residual soap product and leave the skin smooth and smelling great.

Probably the brainchild of some Downy executive who had some idle time..... wink

The thing is always same. Name changes for the marketing purposes.
