As the new Mexican Food Editor at BellaOnline, I would love to hear some comments on my first two articles so do please give me some feedback. For instance, have any of you ever eaten an insect? Insects as food have featured in many world cultures for millenia so the Oaxacan grasshoppers, caterpillars and ants' eggs are not unusual! Do tell me about your experiences. And if there are any particular subjects or areas of Mexican food which you would like to learn more about in future articles, do please mention them. Hi Isabel,
Welcome to the site.
My husband said that he used to eat insects while he was in the Marine Corp. I'm not sure I have the stomach for it! But it is amazing the differences between cultures where some find certain foods a natural delicacy that other cultures would find totally yucky and vs.a vs. I've always been fascinated by that. I look forward to more of your articles.

Many thanks Dianne. Was your husband on a survival course or something when he fed on insects? I have to say that once I got over my reluctance about the whole concept of eating an insect, I found I was able to dive straight in and enjoy the experience. After all, it was no different from eating an escargot in France, or a raw oyster.

He was a Marine and they would go out in the "field" a lot for training. He just has a rather different type of palate more inclined to try new things.

Then if you ever go to Oaxaca, be sure to recommend a sampling of insects to him!
