We all have different things in our life which trigger stress. They can require different techniques to handle.

What are some of the stress triggers in your life?

Lack of sleep is my biggest one, followed closely by lack of money.

Moving. OMG moving.

Feeling dismissed or not validated in some way by others.

Moving!

Getting behind in my work or duties, often because of moving. wink

Traffic 1) People who take their right hand turns on red, often just as you are entering the intersection up to speed... That is my #1 pet peeve about traffic. There are other traffic things that bother me, and that is really the biggest/only stress I have, so I guess I am lucky.

...lol...Michelle, I'm right there with you. I feel like I have 24 hours worth of work to do every day and if somehow 8 hours could be added for sleep on top of that, would life be better or would I somehow create more work for myself?

Lack of money is a definite. I try not to stress on it and just keep my faith that God will make a way...but many days when my kids ask for something all I hear is cha-ching, cha-ching...

Basically though lack of enough time to get done everything I want and need to get done is a huge stresser for me. I'm getting much better at channeling that stress away from food though :-)

I really don't like giving talks and being in front of groups. I know lots of people don't like public speaking, but it really gets to me.

Funny you should say that CopingAlong as being required to give talks is also my pet hate and causes me lots of stress. I find I have to resort to slow deep breathing to calm myself before I can stand up in front of people. I'd hoped it would get easier as I aged but sadly its still there!!

Public speaking training - join toastmasters, there is at least one in most larger cities of the world. We have about 12 clubs in Beijing. It does not cost much and is good general all-round training. Basically, there are two aspects in my experience (and I have only been to 2 meetings) one is the talking practice for 2 minutes on a subject and the other aspect is learning different roles such as timekeeper, master of ceremonies, word of the day, greeter, etc etc so it is good general training. The strictly controlled timing aspect did not suit my personality but for people who need to learn how to take effective meetings, sticking to the topic, organise functions, etc it is very good. Check out the online website (probably called toastmasters, or google it). I believe you can go along to take a look for 3 times before you need to join but you only get to participate in certain parts of the evening.

I'll start a separate thread about speaking in public, since it seems to be on many peoples' lists!

One on time management too!

I get stressed out when I am forced to quickly shift gears without a decompression time. So going from waking to working, or from writing to casual conversation, or anything that i have to do that I didn't mentally plan for in my day. I prefer to have a mental agenda made ahead of time and to try to stick to that.

So if for example Dan starts talking about money/budgeting or work requirements/schedules, and I am not warned this was coming, I get bent out of shape.

Suggestions on handling?
