Oh, an "Ode to Cabbage". I love cabbage, too.
I like to put it in salads, and it's great with so many other foods--tomatoes, potatoes, beans, meats, sausage. I put it in almost all my veggie soups. It's also great just sauteed with some onions. And, I have several coleslaw variations. I love coleslaw on bbq and with fried catfish, it's a must. Oh, and one of my most faves is to put a little olive oil, salt & pepper on it, wrap in foil & grill it. Yummy! (You can do the same in the oven, of course).
Living alone, I have lots of leftovers. I make a pot of soup every week or two and it usually just gets better with reheating. Most main meals are good for one or two leftover meals (a great option for me for lunches). I don't freeze leftovers very often so I try to only make what I'll eat in a few days.
For our family holiday meals, leftovers are like the "free gift with purchase". We always cook tons of food since we all love the leftovers so much. Everyone packs up lots of storage bowls with dressing, casseroles, salads, turkey & ham, etc. and so we get several days of lovely homemade heat & eat meals. I've always thought my kids favorite part of the holidays was the leftovers!
