Why should our beings in the afterlife be any different than they are now while we walk the earth. So many believce that some day our problems will be over when we leave here. Don't we all want to believe that? I believe that if we have done, in this life, whatever we can to give "life" to others and our environment, we will not deviate from that course after this adventure. Likewise if we have not been a life giving force here what makes us think that we will just automatically change at that point. Heaven and hell start right here and we can make it either one in this life or the next. So many say that death is the end but could it possibly be just the beginning?

I really like the way you put this. Suffering through anything alone is a type of hell, whether it is done living or after death. I have said before there are billions of people on this earth, there is no reason for anyone to ever have to feel like they are the only one ever going through something - yet there are those that feel that way every day.

BTW - I love your avatar, it is absolutely beautiful. I am looking forward to getting to know you on here.

Great insight. We all can start now, right here in this life to make a difference.
As you said, when we give "life", we will not deviate...

Death is not the end. I have come to believe that it is definitely a beginning of another phrase of our being.

*shucks* thanks! I picked it up somewhere, but I know I fell in love with it at first sight! Ive always found it interesting how people (myself included) can be surrounded by those that love them and caring friends and yet they feel like they are alone in the world, nothing you say can convince them other wise. Physical ailments have been used to describe these feelings: Depression etc.. I feel that that is humans way of trying to name the feeling of loneliness, but the distance from the universe can be partly to blame more often then not..

It is very dangerous to some people to try and say that Depression is nothing more than separation from god or from the ultimate universe.

Depression is a very real disease. Clinical Depression and Bipolar have both been shown to be a malfunciotn of chemicals in the brain. This has nothing to do with whether a person is "centeres" or not. It is quite possible for a person to be completely devout in their faith and doing everting they can and should be doing to be at peace with the earth and universe - yet still feel like their wrld is falling apart.

I know - I ahev been there and still go through these periods at times. Everything will be going just find. I will feel at harmony with everything, my world will be functionoing then all of a sudden I cannot face people - they terrify me. To have to go to the grocery store or to church is the most horrid fate I can imagine.

The thing that brought me to BellaOnline so many years ago was when Tom Cruise was attacking Brooke Shields so horridly for her "fake" illness fo Post Partum depression. He tried to claim the same thing that Depression was a made up disease that all could be cured by the church. The church at one time actually made mne worse (without meaning to).

I'm soryy I've come off so hot on this subject - but I do not want anyone reading this to think that their Depression is their fault because they are just not "spiritual enough". You could be Mahatma Ghandi and still suffer from Depression if the seratonin in your brain is not working the way it should be.

I love what each of you had to say! Very insightful, it made my day brighter! My belief, a combo of all of the above. Simply put, energy never dies. I believe that whatever your beliefs after death, is what will happen to you. If you believe you go to heaven in the clouds to be with Jesus and your loved ones, then that is where you go. If you believe in reincarnation, you will reincarnate, and so on. I don't think any one belief trumps another. What makes you whole, makes you whole! Finding your own, is what is important. For me there is no argument there. Thank you all, for your wonderful inspiration!

Absolutely agree Michelle! I'm with ya! I'm a med taker probably for life. On my best days, I still have to take them. My serotonin just can't get it's act together, without it. Nothing whatsoever to do, with my spirituality. It may help to keep me moving forward- but it has never been able to change my malfunctioning serotonin. If it were so simple, many a drug company would be bankrupt.

So glad you said this Michelle, I think it is such an important point. I have several family members that suffer from depression, and medication, combined with counseling and other work, has been a godsend to them. I do think in the self-help/spiritual communities there often is this message that medication is a crutch and it should all be resolved on another level. Personally, I do think as a culture we do over-medicate, and too often people are just put on drugs with no other support. But on the other hand, many people absolutely need medication to balance them out - just as my husband needs thyroid medication and will for the rest of his life. But I wish more people also had access to counseling and spiritual support, to work through some of the issues that often accompany depression too....

Chief Seattle (1780 - 1866) of the Duwamish and Suquamish, once said:

"There is no death....only a change of worlds."

I think there are some very good thoughts and enlightment made here by everyone and this is a really good subject to discuss. Through many personal experiences during my life, I know there is a spirit world where we ponder over our last life and absorb the lessons and experiences we had lived before we go on to the next life. In each life we are more aware of the importance of our spiritual growth. About three months before my grandson was born, I dreamed that a little boy came running down my hallway with his arms outstretched and said to me, "I love you, Grandma." That little boy was the exact image of what my grandson looked like when he was three. I even drew a picture of the image in the dream and three years later, my daughter and I looked at it in amazement. My grandson had contacted me from the spiritual world to let me know he would come into my life. That is just one of the experiences I have had that tell me there is no death actually - just a change of worlds.

I am so glad, Michelle, that you commented on the very serious conditions of depression and bipolar symptoms. These are very real illnesses due to the malfunction of brain cells and few people realize this. I once had a counselor (of all people) say to me: "just get over it!" - as if I had a choice!!!
