Examples -- well, I started out researching, after hearing about it from another writer in my class, Dominionism, and ended up learning about that, Christian Reconstructionists, and the Council for National Policy (an extreme right wing secretive group that has Dominionists in its fold.) The basic thing that worries me is that these groups have as their agenda to turn our country into a "bible-based" set of laws - "return to the Christian roots" -- there are people brainwashed into believing that this is, and was always intended to be, a Christian nation (they cherry pick their sources, obviously, or they would know better) - and they are using patient and insidious means. They have been working towards this goal (can you imagine what it would be like if the bible was the basis of all law in the land?) for what, over 30 years, and they are trying to raise up generations of Christian leaders to change things from inside the system.

Oh, and don't forget the Quiverful movement, basically trying to breed their way into the majority. Mind you, I have NO problem with Christians as a rule - most of the ones I know are lovely people who accept me for who I am. But the fundamentalists, as a movement, scare me. (And remember, they tend to vote the way their pastor tells 'em to - so that gives a large amount of say in the hands/mouths of a small number of people.) These are people who, essentially, are taught to not think for themselves.

When you spend enough time reading the excerpts, or listening to smuggled tapes (the versions that are usually done publicly for the general population are sanitized) - it shifts your thinking a bit.

I am not an atheist. I however have incredible respect for them as they have battled against forces that would devour them and stood victorious. I have Christian friends that are very loving, caring people and they too stand victorious. When any group of people, however, uses thier belief system to cause fear or intimidation to increase the number of their ranks they have a misguided image, powerful as it may seem, and will end in their own demise. If people actually believe that through force they can obtain converts they might have a little surprize awaiting them. We may be true athiests, or true wiccan, or true Christian, but one thing that we are NOT is stupid. We are spiritual people, religious or not, so when we are backed into a corner we don't fold up or back down, we simply use the forces of the universe within to change what we need to change. A lady came to see me one day who had some very good ideas about how to help people and asked why she seemed so unsuccessful. As we talked she told me how vocal that she was about injustice. I told her, don't speak. Just do. Use the cosmos and nature in thought and intent and you will accomplish more than ever with out using your mouth. Silence is far more reaching and devistating than all kinds of talk. Use your powers within, they are there !!! Become self empowered and don't force things to happen, allow them to happen.

Cream pie,

I'm never sure if religion causes conflict, or if it is used to stir it up, but I do agree it has no place in politics. When so many established religions take the view that they have an exclusive relationship with the truth, religion in politics cannot but be divisive and manipulative.

Good name by the way smile

I believe that religion has been/is the underlying cause of every war.

For some reason religion infests politics on every level.

Known fact: most of the scientists in the world are atheists. hmmmm - interesting. cool

Seriously? The rights of Christians are being tested everyday. We are not allowed to pray in schools, Creationism cannot be taught in schools but eolution is, The powers that be have changed he terms B.C. and A.D. have been changed to BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era), they want to take Christ out of Christmas. Need I go on?

You are right though that Christians should not judge Atheists or Pagans or anyone with different religious beliefs. God will do that if He sees fit to.

Thank goodness, everyone seems to respect each others beliefs. Religion should not be shoved in anyones face. Thank-you all.
