A fun, imaginative use for using old CDs is to turn them into ornaments! You can hang them on a Christmas tree, in a window, against an office wall, and in all sorts of other locations. They are pretty, personalized, and you can change them with the seasons!

Just use a Dremel tool!

Has anyone tried doing this? You can make fresh ones each year!

That seems like a lot of work just to reuse CDs, but I can see how it would be fun to decorate them as a family activity.

They might be dangerously sharp, though, once cut? That last picture looks like a Ninja throwing weapon.

I wish I could come up with a few non-craft useful ideas for old CDs. There has got to be something!

Okay. Here is one - place one in each emergency and first aid kit, and take them backpacking/hiking/boating/snowmobiling/etc, to use as signalling mirrors. Also, if you break one into pieces, you can have the sharp edges for a variety of cutting uses.

Ummmm, could one line the inside of a box with them to make a solar oven?
