Tackling these backwards again.

(BTW - I am not a huge history or political buff, I am just kind of a placeholder in hee - so things that I say are mostly going to be opinion. I will do what little research I have time for - but the majority of my research time must be spent n my 2 sites here and the books I am writing. So I am GONNA make mistakes. I completely admit that up front.)
But my first husband was in the army (helicopter pilot) during Desert Shield - when it was still a military operation, not a war. The goal was to get Quadaffi out of office and give the people a chance at freedom so they could fight back themselves. That failed because the UN had us pull out before the mission was comlete (quadaffi wasn't "got" - he hid out) Then the terrorit attacks came and fanned the flames and it was felt - "get them before they get us. Other than Pearl Harbor we had never had an attack on US soil before. And everyone knows how quickly and viciously we took care of Pealr Harbor.
Innocent lives are always lost in wars. It is not fair to blame the US alone for innocents being lost. In Vietnam they sent children out with bombs strapped to therboaides because they knew our soldiers wouldn't kill a child - and even near the end when we KNEW the tactic, most soldiers still had a hard time shooting a child point-blank. It is not in our nature to shoot children.
Bombing from above makes it a lot easier. You never have to see your victims. But my FIL was a bomber pilot, and he says he still hs nightmares about the people he killed. He imagines hundreds of faces looking up at him and crying out. Soldiers do not take killing lightly. It is our politicians (who never go into battle that do.) This is why I have a hard time voting for a President that has never servd in the military forces (and definitely had a hard time voting for one who ran from his service appointment and marched in protesst against our servicmen.)
