Apperantly you can live with out a hip joint, but it's not very comfortable. I have my plevis which is made from 2 paralel parts that are connected to the spine, and hip joint is the ball and socet that the thigh bone is connected with to the side of the pelvis (the part that allows the leg to bend at the hip).
In ym surgery they took out the top part of my thigh bone witht he scoket and ball. In my last surgery (since I alredy had an artificial hip joint) they took out that artificial joint out and left me with the half a thigh bone (the lower part that is connected to the knee).
SOunds horrible I know, but it's not that bad realy smile

OK so you still have a pelvis, but without the side part that the leg fits into? And you still have a leg, but without the top part that sits into the pelvis area? How can you even move around? That really does sound scary!!
