OK, OK, OK <L> ... I guess we have plenty of "G" names!

Someone else want to sneak in an Alaskan animal (obviously feathered critters will be fine, too) starting with the letter "H"? It wasn't really fair of me to impose a rule after the game had started anyway - so I take that part back - everyone can contribute however they wish - this is mostly for fun, anyway. Enjoy!

Do we have an "H" out there? smile

Yep, Humpback (baleen) whales are often sighted, sometimes fairly close to shore off the coats of southern Alaska - tourists on whale watching boats and cruise ships love the famous view of their huge tails often captured on photos as they head back underwater.

We (my husband and I) had one come up right alongside the AK Ferry we were traveling the Inland Passage on a few years back - I saw it out the porthole of our cabin and may have had one of the best views on the boat - it appeared RIGHT outside my window, which was just above the waterline - it seemed only feet away! It was HUGE! Once it had passed by, I raced upstairs to the stern of the boat just in time to see it's tail raise up high out of the water a ways out in the boat's wake before disappearing out of sight.

You surprised me though! I was SURE someone was going to say "Halibut"! smile

OK ... how about an "I"? smile

<L> Nope - no domestic pets! Come on, you can come up with a "J" animal. I can think of at least two ....

Get those brilliant brains in gear - you can do it!

I was wondering if someone would come up with the ever-popular JAY. This commonly bird is referred to as a Blue Jay in many parts of the country (or world), but Jays come in a wide variety of names and colors from a true "blue" to black and white, gray and white and even shades of brown. Still, a Jay is a Jay and Jays are a common bird in Alaska!

I also noticed several very active Juncos on our wild bird feeder the other morning. So I guess the "J's" are going to the birds this time around! Congrats!

Now ... on to "K". No, there are no kangaroos in Alaska smile
