IH8FMS - that is great that you were able to get out of the toxic environment. Whoever it is that is causing you that kind of emotional harm, it is well worth it to get away from them even if it means temporary financial hardship.

In a similar vein I know several women who stayed longer than they should have with a very toxic spouse. In the end when they left they were SO relieved even though it was challenging financially. They all said they should have done it years ago. It can be challenging to take that step - to give up the paycheck - but your health and sanity and ability to thrive is really worth far more.

Oh, definitely! It took me awhile to find the job I have now. It is more of a *normal* job, meaning it has its highs and lows, and its frustrations, but I feel like I can usually deal with it, y'know?

And it does have its good moments to make up for the stupid stuff. For instance, a couple years ago, my boss made fun of me for the way I talk. He said I use too many "big words" and it was not said in a friendly way. I just shrugged and made a joke out of it and told him he was just being a curmudgeon.

"A what??"

Ever since then, though, he always consults ME about spelling or the meaning of a word, like the right word to use in a business letter.

There are reasons why work is a four-letter word.

Here's an Interesting little follow-up, or epilogue, or whatever...

The aforementioned Nasty Woman, the Boss From H-E-fill-in-the-blanks, the mean hateful person who loved to say viciously insulting things to people just to upset them, the office world's Scut Farkas complete with her coterie of Grover Dill clones, the leader who made up a Nasty Book and kept it in a prominent place and encouraged the staff to write up other employees and tattle on any real or perceived wrongdoings under the guise of "Teamwork"...

She got a big old huge promotion.

I guess leaving a trail of anger, hurt feelings, disloyalty, and unhappiness is a most valuable trait in the bidness world! Maybe that's why I never got all that far...

Promotions are not always everything. It may simply mean she is now further from people and more in charge of ideas, where she is better placed. Hopefully that is true!
