Yeah...was going to wait on that until I got the bigger tank. I do like those danios..very fun to watch. So are those gouramis....lol...would like to get a few more of those too. They are quite beautiful in the florescent lighting and the black background I have in back of the tank. One minute they look blue, the next their stripes color up more and they look more orangish. Gee...here's a pic....lol.. http://www.bellaonline.com/misc/rateme/photos/photo2423.jpg I saw some diamond tetras the other day, they are quite an attractive fish too..but you need a school of them too and not sure that 29 is quite large enough for all that..lol..Have to wait till I get a 40..

My gouramis are in a quarentine tank...where they should have been when I brought them home..(of course I knew better..but they looked so darn healthy!!)
They both have a sore on thier mouths, which could very well just be an injury from them nipping at each other..(one can hope it's only that) And they are also squeezing out some long stringy poops....which could just be the change in thier diet.
Always quarentine your fish before you add them to your tanks. Again, I knew this...but I gave in to the "I just want to see them in thier new homes" syndrome. Lol...I'm sure they'll be fine...but it is rather embarrasing to admit this blunder..lol..it's such a newbie thing to do!
Now, to go to the table and partake of a few pieces of humble pie...heehee...

Well, the gourami's seem to be doing rather well. The ulcer like wounds near thier mouths seem to be healing up nicely. I haven't treated them with anything but a bit extra salt in the water. Their little poos also seem to be normalizing as they get used to the flakes I have been feeding them. I'll still keep them in there for at least another week or two to be sure.
I picked up two new long finned danios. A blue and a leopard. The blue is quite pretty, he has black edging on his fins which is quite striking next to his beautiful blue back. They move so fast it's hard to get a good look at them for very long though..lol.
I have been eyeballing the possiblity of a pair of German blue rams.....do I dare?? Most everything I have been reading about them says they are not for newbies..hhmm...one thing I did read was not to buy any from asia as they pump them full of hormones and antibiotics to grow them fast and so they look good on the sale floor..but then die within a few months after you bring them home. I'm still considering the possibility after I grow up to the 29 gallon. With the 6 danios, 2 dwarf gouramis and the 1 otocinclus..there should be room enough for 2 rams. I would like to put a cory cat in there to clean up the bottom some..but I think that would be pushing it a bit..at least right off. Anyone here have any experience with these little ciclids that you would want to share?
Well, have blabbed enough for now..lol...Got a gift certificate and some cash for Christmas...plan on spending it on fish stuff...big surprise?

Picked up a 29 gallon tank today..with the gift certificate that hubby gave me for Christmas..what a nice guy !
Spent the day switching tanks and taking the opportunity to clean up the things I had in the 20. Boy..there's alot of room in that 29 !...lol. The gouramis are going to love it !
Dang though..I forgot to pick up a background to go with the tank...it's going to be a pain to get that on now...but no way was I going to wait for that before I set this thing up !! HaHa !
I was looking at the blue rams at the LFS where I picked up the tank...was very tempted to get two that I saw had paired up..but my good sense got the better of me. These fish are difficult to care for at best....need to wait till my tank is settled and stable before I give a pair of those a try. They sure are an interesting and pretty fish. Can't wait !

Hey, Emg, make sure you are ready for cichlids (ie, Rams) before you go into it...they are as addictive as bettas, but worse, since you can at least put more than one in each tank.
I've found that once people start with cichilds, suddenly the 'normal' tropical fish become boring...(bettas excluded, of course). Cichlids are very much 'pet' fish...

Lol Jilly...you're probably right...but I figure these rams are a little different as I have been reading that you can put them with other community fish because they are rather peaceful...for a cichlid.
I read that they will do fine by themselves but probably better with another they have paired with. That's why I was so interested in the two I was watching at PetCo today. They were obviously an item in that tank and one of them was all pinked up in the belly..busy chasing all the other rams..but leaving the other cichlids in there with them..alone.
A very interesting fish...I want some !

The thought actually did occur to me there Jilly...lol...Can't stand to see an empty tank..
But really...I need to save up on the cashola before I get another tank going. I took everything out of the 20 to put in the 29...though I did have some gravel left as I filled the bottom of the 29 with florite for the plants. I'd need another stand...more gravel and florite(that stuff aint cheap!)..then plants...dah dee dah dee dum...so, not likely to happen very soon...but definitly on the back burner.

well, Rams are pretty small and peaceful for cichlids, so it should be okay. which ram are we talking about? Just to be sure. the geophagus kind is NOT suitable.
We all know fish have their own personalities, and if your ram couple started spawning, they might terrorize or kill your other fish. or not. that's the fun of this game. Fish are like a box of chocolates!

Lol about the chocolates....so true,
These are german blue rams...very pretty and I know not one of the easier fish to have success with so I'm waiting for my tank to cycle properly. I do want to get more plants for that 29 too. Lol...what I put in there from the 20 long looks so small and lost in there ! Besides, plants help to bring the PH down from what I have been reading which my PH is sort of boarderline for blue rams. I'll try them out and see how they do..hopefully I'll have success.
Speaking of plants. Not that familiar yet with what sorts of florescent lighting is best for a planted tank. I have read that 3 watts per gallon should do well, but...how do you get 3 watts per gallon when the highest wattage I can find is 20..and my hood only has room for one bulb..(gad...not another hood!!! those things are soooo expensive! )
I have flourite under the gravel for iron, but they are looking a bit anemic anyway. Maybe when I have more fish in the tank to create more carbon dioxide, they'll pick up a bit, not to mention better lighting. Right now I still have just the 6 danios and one otocinclus. Waiting patiently to be sure about the gouramis before I put them in.
