I was at the fish store today...(AGAIN! ) Gee, I can't decide between the neon blue dwarf...the powder blue dwarf...or the redflame dwarf gourami!! What a dilemma!
I was looking at a 29 gallon tank too...gee, it was $50.00 at PetCo but without a hood..which I don't need as the one I have on the 20 gallon will fit fine, and it will also fit just fine on the stand I have the 20 on now. The bio-wheel filter I would need for that tank is $27.00 at PetSmart..so for about $80.00 I could size up and get even MORE fish for my community!!!
Best to wait till after the holidays....lol...I could give off a few good hints like that grandma on the digital camera commercial...lol...she was taking pictures of everyone with a "stapler"
Hey, anyone have any good ideas on how I can drop hints to the family???

i have a question about gouramis. I have five dwarf (3 powder blue and 2 sunset) in a 75 gallon aquarium would it be alright to put in 2-3 of the pearl gouramis with them or would they fight?
I also have a stripped raphael, 4 upside down cats, a black ghost knife fish (which may cause me to move the dwarfs when he gets big I'm not sure?), and my clean up crew of two rubber plecos. so i also wonder if adding the pearls will be too many fish?
i guess i had more than one question.
I think it is so neat that your danios are having babies. I have the same delema with platys in my 55 gallon aquarium. good luck to you figuring out what to do with them. thanks for any help, you have been great help when i had trouble with my bettas- they are all happy and healthy now.

Welcome back Kscarlet ! Glad we could help !
As far as how many fish you can keep in a 75 gallon...1 inch of fish per gallon is generally the rule, though a well established properly set up tank may be able to handle a bit more.
As far as weither or not the pearls will be ok with your other gouramis..I did read a chart that said that gouramis may be kept with other gouramis...but that pearls should not be kept with overyly aggressive fish like cichlids. Fish with similar temperments and of similar size should be ok. The Pearl gouramis get to be about 4 inches.
Let's see, your upside down cats will get to be about 4"each........the dwarf gouramis about 2" each......the black ghost knife fish will get to be about 1' 6".......the rubber plecos about 7" each and I'm not sure about the raphael....did I get them all ?...lol
That would be about 58" not including the raphaels..if I've done my math properly  . Seems to me you'd have a bit of room for a few Pearls. All of those fish are fairly peaceful though the black knife can be semi aggressive...and again, I'm not sure about the raphael...
Sounds like a nice tank you have there Scarlet..any chance of getting a picture of it posted for us to see ?

Emg and Scarlet, when you are measuring fishes, remember to measure not just length but width and height. skinny fishes like gouramis are still pretty tall. think in three dimensions when you are running the 1 inch of fish 'guideline'.
it's good that you are looking at adult inches too.
Also, allow for extra inches for semi-agressive fish like the knife(they need the mental 'space'), and don't forget to give him a hidey space like a gerbil tube.
lastly, messy fish like Plecos also account for more inches! Big poop and ammonia producers stress the ecosystem more than tiny little things like danios.
there is so much to know in communities! That said, I don't think 2 pearls would be a bad addition, but keep an eye on your nitrite levels.
I have a few cheap test kits left, only $3 for a new kit, if ya need.

Lol Jilly....they did seem very familiar to me...maybe that's why I liked them so much..
In my 20 long tank I have at the moment...4 long finned danios....1 otocinclus...and 2 neon dwarf gouramis. I figure that's about as much as that tank will handle. I do plan on upping to a 29 though...(hee hee)...right after Christmas ! Going to wait and see what kind of gift certificates I might get from the family..
I would like to go bigger, but I'm trying to do this without spending a whole lot more. The 29 tank has the same dimensions as the 20 long, it's just a bit taller...so...I don't need another stand or hood...just a bigger filter. All the decorations and plants I have in the 20 I can just shift over to the 29...then....I can get MORE fish !!! :rolling:

ya, that would be good. I would recommend more danios, since four isn't enough for them to feel really comfortable. as a schooling fish, the more danios the better for them, and the more enjoyable for you as they start to exibit more typical schooling behavior.
