Is Dixie a small dog?
Can storks breathe underwater? Is that the way they get their food?
Phyllis I can't imagine seeing so many eagles flying in one place. I'd just burst!
Was watching the grackles sneak catfood out of the food dishes this morning....

Dixie is a bizarre dog, part yellow lab and part wired haired terrier. A strip of hair on her head sticks up like a mohawk and the hair on her neck sticks out and curls slightly, almost like those lizards in Australia with skin flaps they spread when threatened. She has the yellow lab color, and is a bit smaller than a lab, but her hair is corse and wiry like a terrier.
I don't think wood storks can breathe underwater, but that one was certainly giving it a try. It may have been after a frog or maybe a crawfish. They nest in large groups along the tidal creeks in our area, but I'm not certain of their diet.
I just checked my field guide and was incorrect in my assumption they migrated. This is strange, as in previous years I only saw them in the late winter and spring. Now they are everywhere. These are large birds, almost 4 ft tall, with a wingspan of over 5 ft. You definitely notice them on the side of the road, or soaring overhead. I've heard "Florida is Full," maybe they moved north. The armadillas certainly have. They are all over SC now.

I saw a dove with a white ring (in its feathers) around its neck walking on the grass behind our block

I saw a Hawk this morning flying over quite low. I thought he was going to land on my patio wall, but he kept going.

Eagle yesterday, soaring, circling over the field across the road and then above the house.

I just saw nine Golden Eagles circling our little mountain.
Wednesday morning my sister and I were out in the desert and saw many chipmunks by our picnic table. We had also seen a tiny lizard when we were hiking a trail.

Cecil heard the coyotes during the night. I love it when they come calling!

The calls of the Coyote are so hauntingly beautiful. I miss hearing them at night. When I lived over by the little mountain a few years ago, I left my window open at night to hear the Coyote and the Cougar. Very peaceful sounds to me.

I was surprised to not see any hawks on my way to SC on Wednesday, but did see a wood stork soaring above. I was almost to SC and it was farther North than I expected.

I have never seen a Wood Stork, so looked up a picture of it.
