I thought the upside down tomatoes sounded like something I might try too! Planting this weekend and early part of the week ahead. I heard we will have yet one more frost warning in our area this & tom. evening! Yikes.

I hope to purchase at least one.

Hubby has his garden in the ground already. He is not doing as much as he usually does, only cucumbers & garlic, squash & zuchinni, and tomatoes...lots of tomatoes. He told me I better be ready to can tomatoes and make salsa!

The temperature here today was 30 degrees less than yesterday. And we had more rain. It rained so hard this morning that my tomato plan was bent over. I tried to get cages yesterday but Home Depot was sold out of them. I did get some today elsewhere. I don't like to handle tomatoes when wet but I felt I had to put the cages in place today.

I picked up a salsa at the store Friday - Tostitos brand. It was a summer salsa. It was a huge hit. Have you seen it? Perhaps you can figure out the ingredients and make your own.

I have a good salsa recipe that was my grammas. Everyone loves it. I just can't seem to make enough to last very long! A couple of months ago I ran out of canned tomatoes. This year hubby has planted more romas. Bad thing about romas is they all mature at once and then you are sick of them!

Sure Angie, I would be happy to share it. I will hunt it down for you. I have found that roma tomatoes make much better salsa as they don't have near as much water in them. Connie

That's true about Romas. They are wonderful for rich, thick, smooth sauces.

Gramma's Picante Sauce

I flat roma tomatoes (to me a flat is like a cardboard 24 pk holder--I am sure there is a better name for it but it escapes me)
2 large onions
6 jalapenos (seeds & all)
2 bell peppers (I seed these)
1 large clove garlic
1 TBSP pepper
2 TBSP salt
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp oregano

Peel tomatoes, usually I dip in boiling water and the skins pull off easily. I put peppers, onions, jalapenos and garlic in food chopper. Put all ingredient in large pot. I squash tomatoes with a potato masher while they are cooking. I guess you could run them through the food chopper too though. I cook 45 minutes on medium and then put in clean jars and process jars for 15 minutes.
