ok it's morning! The rosemary has been strained and is now simmering! It was a full cup when I began, I wonder how long it'll take to simmer down to a half cup.

Wow I just took a shower with this, it was GREAT! Very liquidy though. I had to put it all over my head instead of into my hand. It did a GREAT job of lathering and lifting my hair to get it clean. I love how it smells and my hair feels clean and I love the smell.
However, cost:
Rosemary was $2.49 - I got fresh organic rosemary for my first try Distilled water is $1/gal - so 1/8th gallon = 12 cents Castile soap $40/gal - $3.75 Lavender oil - $7/10ml - guess at say 50 cents?
So that's rounded to about $7 for 2 cups = 16 ounces. That is much more than I've ever paid for shampoo. If I cut out the over-the-top rosemary that would cut the cost to something more reasonable ...

Hmmm... I'm surprised at the cost. And of course you should count your time in the cost also.

Here's a photo of the final product - it's rather thin. It is really great!

Well remember I can grow rosemary so organic rosemary can be free. I can grow lavender too. So both of those would be free. I'm paying for organic castile soap from Vermont. I could shop around locally for a less expensive castile soap, once I go through this gallon.

Here are my ingredients - So of the four, the water is cheap and the only thing I have to really buy is the castile soap base.

There are tickening agents that can be used in hair color to make it easier to use. I wonder if there is something similar that can be used in your shampoo?

Growing your own herbs would be nice. It would make it more "your own" shampoo.

If you buy the aloe castile soap in 5 gallon pails then it's only $25/gallon.
So that appears to be about $2.46 for a 16 ounce bottle, if you grow your own herbs. That's not bad!

The soap base already has aloe in it but I'm thinking of adding in more, to thicken it up a bit. Although really once I figured out the drizzling technique it was great, and it uses very little!
