I remember when I trumpeted how great it was that Subway was adopting a low carb wrap as an option for their sandwiches. As of March 2009, they have completely abandoned ALL wraps in their stores.

This is VERY frustrating to me! I loved eating their wraps!!

We'll have to pull together some wrap ideas for Healthy Foods and Low Carb sites ;-)

But seriously, that's not a move forward, considering the number of cities enacting laws to require restaurants to post the calorie count of their menu items.

Are they leaving the salads alone, at least?

They still have 2 salads on their website but then again they still have wraps on their website too. I don't know when it was last updated.

I don't order salads because they are a pain in the butt to eat in the car. Really the key reason I go to Subway is we are driving somewhere and need to eat along the way. Although my boyfriend was out shopping at a WalMart I think a few days ago and brought me home a tuna sub which is how we discovered all of this.

Wow. This is very disappointing. I wonder what their reason is.

LOL I didn't even swear really, I said a word beginning with "b". I guess we are super-sensitive with our swear filter!!

I would have to guess it saves them a few pennies not to stock wraps. But heck, they're going to lose visitors as a result ...

Subway is like any other company, they go with the trend. Wraps are no longer "trendy" (this is according to even my business marketing professor). Plus, there recent campaigns of 5 dollar footlongs has really caused their business to peak. It has forced other sandwhich places to follow their suits, so if you can get a footlong sub for 5 dollars or a wrap for nearly the same, which would you go for (if you weren't low carb abd the average person)? Marketing research and real life reports say a 5 dollar footlong.

I'm sure most people would rather go for an all-you-can-eat buffet But they should still offer a wrap for the people who want to eat small healthy amounts! It shouldn't be an either-or thing. There's no way I want a whole foot of food!

I went to a gas station called Sheetz the other day. Subway offered the $5 footlong, Sheetz was offering the $4.00 footlong. Wegman's was offering $5.00 for a 7 in. I guess subway has started a trend.

Have you read In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan? One of his rules for healthy eating is to never buy food where you buy gas! Another is to focus on quality over quantity. If we are ever going to get our health and weight under control, we are going to have to get over our bigger is better mentality when it comes to food.

I can vouch for the not buying food where you buy gas! We went to a Subway in a gas station while we were driving across Texas a couple years ago and it's the only time I ever got food poisoning. My husband did too. It was terrible.

He still won't eat at Subway and we used to go there fairly often when traveling because the food was healthier than a burger and fries.

I agree completely Martha - people go for big foods that are cheap and get junk as a result.

A book I was just reading made an analogy. Would you put water in your gas tank to "make it seem full in a cheap way"? No!! You pay the money for gas. So why do we put junk in our own bodies just to be full? Aren't we worth more than a car?

Many people say they have to buy cheap food because of their budget - and then if you look at their budget they're spending money on luxuries like movies and such. Your body and health are the most important thing you can possibly care for!

Joan - I can completely see getting food poisoning at a Subway. All those foods sitting out. If someone is sloppy with the care of them, they can easily go bad. I always wondered about that.

We went by a different Subway today and got confirmation that Subway has discontinued all wraps. They have replaced it with "flat bread". The owner of the Subway said it was the stupidest decision Subway has ever made - that nobody is buying flat bread and that wraps were a big seller for him. He's had many complaints including people who simply do not eat bread and who used to regularly eat those wraps.

I asked him if I should write Subway daily to demand my wraps be returned and he said to go for it

Wow! I had no idea they are abandoning wraps. I love Subway and occasionally eat the wraps. Thats sad.

I work at Subway and talk to customers who want wraps to stay on the menu. I don't know if this is true everywhere, but in Michigan the wrap has not been low carb for at least 2 years now. If you pick up the nutrition guide or look online, there are more calories in a wrap than in any 6" bread. And BTW do not order tuna thinking that it's the healthiest choice on the menu. It is the worst. It contains the most fat of any of the other subs if the store is not using lowfat mayo, which they are not instructed to do. The flatbread, however, is a good choice. It has 0 trans fats and fewer calories.

Sailhounds2 - "the most fat"? You do realize you're in a low carb forum here We don't see fat as the ultimate evil. On the other hand, fish has omega 3 oils so it is VERY good for you.

The same is true for calories. We aren't calorie counters here.

The chicken bacon wrap was 8g of net carbs - VERY low.
