I think Spring may have arrived in Minnesota. Over the past 4 or 5 days, the ground has reappeared, and has thawed enough that we no longer have standing water. So this morning I say a Grackle. It's almost always the first bird I see returning. I may have also seen a Robin. It was far enough away that I couldn't really identify the bird; but it was the right size, color, and it was hopping instead of walking.

Hey Kimmie, Here in Illinois, we have had soooo many robins (seems like more than ever!) and at least two roosting pair of cardinals! Yeah! Just love it! Both of the birds have great morning calls. Finally spring is here!

I so love cardinals, considering we are BIG TIME ST. LOUIS CARDINALS FANS!!!! eek

Sorry, went a lil' crazy there. My family lives in Illinois and are enjoying the birds there too.

Nature is always amazing to me. I don't know whether spring or fall is my favorite season. They both have so many breathtaking features to ponder on. Thanks for chiming in. Chat with you soon. Bye.

Hey Kimmie, is it me or are the "crows" getting bigger and bigger? I think the one in my backyard was the size of my nine-pound yorkie! I'm not kidding! (maybe they are not crows or blackbirds?) I think they are scary too! Especially when they are that big!

hahahahaha that is too funny. I could have sworn I saw a hawk yesterday flying over my backyard. I quickly brought my lil' chihuahua in before he became lunch. eek

Ys, the crows are huge - they are taller than the hawk.

I don't know if these forums have made me more aware of the birds in my neighborhood, or if it's the fact that I'm feeding more than normal, but I am seeing more varieties than I have in the past. Yesterday there was a Goldfinch family (bright male, dull female, and dull, but very tiny, juvenile) out for a family stroll. After lunch they moved on.

I have not noticed any crows, but I imagine that's because I'm so close to farm fields they have no reason to come to town.

We probably need to change topic titles. Even here, where we still have a chance of snow, winter is over. GrannyH
