A few minutes ago I saw seven Black-Backed Woodpeckers in the tree and right in amongst them was a little Sparrow who seemed quite proud to be part of the group.

It reminded me of a family reunion we once had to welcome my great nephew home from college. His father is Cherokee and the whole Cherokee side of the family were there. We were taking pictures of different groups of the family and when it was time to take the picutre of the Cherokee clan we raised our cameras then looked again - right up front in the middle was my blonde-haired, blue-eyed, light-skinned five year old grandson! When we tried to call him away, the Grandfather put his hands on my grandson's shoulders and said, "He stays! If he wants to be part of my family, I adopt him!" So there we have this beautiful picture of the tall, black-haired, dark-eyed Cherokee clan with a little blonde boy right up front.

We laughed so hard and wondered what the relatives in generations from now will think and try to guess who that little boy is and where he came from. laugh My grandson said, "They are my family, too!"

My father usually takes a white pine (Pinus strobus) cone, fill it with pb and roll it in seed then hang it from a tree.

On the way up to SC this weekend we saw two huge Osprey in the Altamaha Waterfowl Reserve area. Friday was definitely a good day to be a buzzard. There were hundreds soaring up high in the warm sunshine, all the way to Columbia. We returned home today amid the gloom of a cloudy day, but saw several hawks waiting in the trees for the weather to improve.

Tuesday we went for a long drive through Red Rock, NV, saw a white buffalo (almost white, he was very pale) and he was so majestic and powerful looking. He was on a farm in Red Rock. Then we drove on over to Susanville, CA and on another farm saw an emu! We also saw a little gray fox in Susanville. On the trip we saw many hawks, quail and rabbits.

We were in the backyard this afternoon when one of our hawks swooped down and then landed in a tree behind the house. It was then we noticed the nest nearby. The foliage had it hidden during the spring and summer. I'm hoping they are getting ready for another nesting season.

I love hawks! I saw a large one yesterday sitting at the tip of the pine tree out back, just watching over his neighborhood.

Do clouds count as "seeing animals"? Yesterday afternoon I was watching the fluffy white clouds moving along and one of them looked like the head of a darling puppy. Then it changed and looked like a lamb, then a pony then a bear. Strange - but, interesting.

Are they alive? I think deer are some of the most lovely animals.

I have been seeing more and more hawks and they are coming closer to the house.

The woodpecker groups have really grown. They are out there every morning still to greet me.

I put out more bread crumbs and more little birds, like finces are coming around.

oh yes definitely live.

Driving home from Jacksonville FL, we saw DOZENS of deer grazing on the road side. While I was happy to see them I mentally was telling all of them to stay put.

We saw several mule deer in Genoa a few days ago. They wander into the tiny town and gather at the park or in yards. The people do not seem to mind these beautiful creatures grazing in their yards. Even a German Shepherd seemed to enjoy just lying on his front porch watching the deer.
