That's a good point Lynne. My closest grocery store is literally 15 minutes up a major highway that has no real place to ride on. I would never do that either on bike or foot. It sort of is a sad commentary that many towns don't have any food stores any more. They expect you MUST have a car to go drive to get food. The best I could do is to go 2 miles along first a major road and then a state highway to get to a convenience store for extremely overpriced milk and bread.

Lisa, my grocery store is about two minutes away driving but I refuse to walk and get grocers. I've become much to attached to driving, especially in Texas.

They drive like riding horses. When's the last time you've seen a horse put on a left or right signal? hahahahah

Processed food, all I can say, is that it can really mess you up. Learn that from you Lisa in the "helping Kimmie thread" last year. But I've adopted fresh foods and its doing me good. Thanks a bunch Lisa.

Hey if you're in Texas you should be riding a horse to get your groceries! Go horseback riding each day to exercise the horse, and bring home the groceries in your saddlebags!

Lisa - the neighbors ride their bikes to the market - also ride their bikes to work in the village or if commuting to a city ride bikes to the train station. There are more bikes in Holland than our 17,000,000 population.

Wow, that is so cool! What a great, healthy, environmentally friendly way to live!

The distances are a lot greater in the US I think, maybe we all need electric or solar mini-cars or something, rather than bikes. Or we all need much stronger leg muscles smile

The man next door rides his bike 16 miles roundtrip to work - all on bike lanes!

Sixteen miles isn't too bad! When I worked outside the home it was in Boston, so that was an hour by car each way to get there. I don't think I'd do well trying to do that distance on a bike!

I would love to have bike lanes around here. The supermarket we use is 9 miles away, so that would be 18 miles round trip - but it's all nasty highway riding where I'm not sure they even allow road bikes on it.

Lisa, the thing about where I live is more city-like. I'm in a more suburbian type area. Not as rural. So, all you see are cars and other motor vehicles. I wish I could ride a horse. They are so beautiful.

During the rodeo here, just looking at them will bring such peace. I guess that's why (other than hardly any "black" shows being on TV in the 70's), I took to Bonanza, Gunsmoke and House on the prairie so much. For those darn horses. (smile)

Hmmm OK no horses. How about a bike? If it's only 2 minutes away, that should be super easy! You could go out every other day for a few items, enjoy the sunshine, get some fun exercise and get fresh veggies!

Lisa, apparently, you have not been to Texas, at least some parts....these people here are always hitting pedestrians. In other parts of the world, there may be less congestion but not in the fourth largest metropolitan city. No way.

Still,I find a way to stay away from those darn processed foods.
