I'm so excited. grin I saw a Cardinal yesterday and we hardly see them here in lower parts of Texas. I guess if you put the right food out there, they will come.

And what's even more exciting is that, my family are big time Cardinals fans, make that St. Louis Cardinals fans. We've remained fans of them since leaving home up north many years ago. Still, they are in our hearts.

Hey Kimmie,

We live in Kentucky and see cardinals all the time in the winter. The cardinal is the state bird for Kentucky. We usually put out song bird food and we have made lots of feeders and enjoy seeing all the birds we get. In the summer I love the hummingbirds.

I was looking out my kitchen window one morning a few weeks ago, and saw my Bluejay couple just having the time of their lives. A check with the Weather Channel told me it was one of the coldest mornings of this winter -26 degrees. I'm sure all that tearing around was just an effort to warm up. whistle

The cardinal is my favorite bird. They seem to be attracted to pine trees. You'll always hear a cardinal singing in the morning in a nearby pine tree. They always seemed to be at my mom's when she still had her house. I don't get many birds since I live in a high rise. Pigeons (uggh dirty birds) but I do get a red tail hawk every once in awhile. He even landed on my balcony rail once. Can you imagine looking out the window while sitting at the computer and seeing this humongous creature outside. At first I thought it might be one of our falcons from nearby Kodak Park (they have a falcons nest (and webcam during season...March is coming).

rdywenur, I would have thought your favorite bird was a Flamingo. But really, where is Kodak Park, and how can we see that webcam. I would love to see that.

Granny ....nope...looks can be decieving...LOL. The flamingo is my sisters favorite bird. (she collects them and anything to do with them...you should see the collection) I was looking for something on line for her one day and came across this avatar and just decided to keep it for myself. That was long ago and nevr felt to change it here.

Ooops I said Kodak Park...its at Kodak Office which is in downtown Rochester, NY. Right now the cam is not up and since they downsized they stoped sponsering but have let the cam run when in season. Then you can watch the Mariah and Kaver lay eggs at the nest. There is a nice gallery and a forum for bird watchers from around the country. Good news Mariah just flew back to Rochester so activity should be starting soon....

Here is a photo of my falcon. I had to shoot him through the window because if I tried to open the patio door it scared him away. Unfortunately the screen doesn't give a clear view. If you look at his foot the building right next to it in the distance is KO where the pergrine falcons reside.

Thanks for the link and photo. Much more fun than watching the squirrels which is what I do. I'm waiting for a ticket from the city for encouraging them to stay in the neighbor. I'm sure, as much fun as I have, everyone else considers them pests.

This weekend is the Great Backyard Bird Count - I haven't had any unusual birds drop by though. Cardinals, chickadees, titmouse, juncos, red-bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker, wren, crow, white-throated sparrows.
