I just found a site for a "Stack and Slash" guilt that makes a crazy quilt. It's sorta like the equilter's star that Donna Rae mentioned. This is the Kansas City Project Linus site and we'll see how I do with links. stask and slash quilt Hope it gives another option for this "method" to Quiltingmom.

Hurrah!! It worked. If you start out in 'Quick Reply' you can click on 'Switch to Full Reply' and not lose what you have started.
Just realized I can't spell, but it still works. LOL

there's another kind that looks like a wheel. it has wedge-shaped pieces that repeat themselves and end up looking just like a kaleidoscope. not like the kaleidoscope pattern, but like a real one. it depends on a wedged template and laying it out with the template in the exact same location on the print for each cutting. once the pieces are attached, they fan out to form a flower-like circle or hex or whatever.
then there is the kaleidoscope pattern block, that works the same way, with the addition of an outlining color at the top of each wedge.
donnarae, you're the resident researcher here. can you come up with some info?

Oh yeah, I have the book Magic Quilts By the Slice by Bethany Renolds. I actually had forgot all about it untill you just now said something. Now that is bad. Just pulled the book down. Was so excited when I bought it. Guess I put it aside and that was that. LOL. Now you have me piqued up. Hmm, have to do some looking. Don't know if I have seen much about it online though. Will have to check. (-: Now thinking there is a site that had some free instructions and showed it with some animals I think, I will check and be back. (-:

donnarae,
i know that you can search bethany reynolds online, but hers is the traditional block called 'kaleidoscope' i think. i have seen another that has more "spokes" and is rounder than that. also have seen them made into rounds and then cut into other shapes, like hexes and even triangles after the spokes have been put together. somewhere, i have a softcover book called "one block wonders" that shows this method. i'll have to scrounge around for it
i can't figure out how to be informed when there's an answer to a post here.

the kaleidoscope pattern that i mean is like a grandmother's fan but every wedge is exactly the same, and the points come together in the center. the fan out to the edge of the block, whatever shape you cut that to. sometimes it can have border around the inside of the edge, but it's a continuation of each edge, not a differnt shape. did i mix everyone up?
