I think you can have childhood friends who are not good for you - and childhood friends who are perfect. A lot of it can be the luck of the draw - did you happen to live near someone who was really compatible with you? It's like falling in love with someone you knew from kindergarten - or waiting until you are 30 to finally find someone who is perfect for you. Sometimes it takes a while to find that good match and sometimes you are very lucky.

Meeting people is definitely a skill, and it's something all of us can work on! For example if you stay home all day every day it's not likely you're going to meet anybody smile If you love hiking and you go out hiking every day on different trails then you'll probably run into lots of hikers along the way and meet some really cool hiking buddies. So a lot of it is about having a set of interests and then finding ways to be in situations where others with those interests will be out to run into.

So the first question is - what are some of your favorite interests?

It's a wonderful thing when you find your "soulmate" - in friendship and in marriage. It's not easy to find that one or two people with whom you have an unbreakable bond.

I lost my best girl friend about four years ago to cancer and it still hurts. Honestly, I haven't been able to develop a relationship like that with anyone else. And, I don't know if I want to.

My husband is best friend but it's not the same as having a best girlfriend - one you can talk to anytime about anything.
