Hello Every one

I know a lot of you have visited this site but did not post any comments. I just want you to know this community is for you. It is here for you to ask questions make suggestions and talk about hair. Our main theme here is hair.

The holidays are coming up fast and I know a lot of you are in preparation for all the glitter and sparkle the holidays bring with it. There will be parties, family get togethers and friends just dropping by. Times will be busy, but your beauty still counts.

There are many aspects of hair care to be covered. Some want to know how to comb hair, wash hair. Some want to know the best products and tools to use for styling. Some want to know about the stylish hair styles for the season. What ever your concern or your imagination post it here.

Again this is about hair. We have hair do's, hair don'ts. We have weaved hair, hair coloring. This is just to get you started thinking about what you would like to know or always wondered about taking care of ethnic and multi-ethnic hair. Our hair really is different than our fair skinned counter parts.

So if you visit here today please stop in, introduce yourself and tell us about your hair care musings. Let me know what you want and I can address it on my site by writing an article or two on it.

I look forward to reading your questions, comments and suggestions for and on hair care.

Hello Every one,

Happy tThanksgiving to all. I have just posted a new article on the difference between testurizers, relaxers and perms. These are chemical processes intreating the hair.

I wopuld love to hear your suggestions and opinions of ethnic products you've used and how they benefitted you and your hair.

Let us know what worked and didn't work.

I have what they refer to as a large "s" pattern. I have not used a hot iron, perm, texturizer or blow-dryer in about 10-12 years. The texture of my hair is soft, fine and after a wash appears straight.
I did not learn about my hair untill I went to a salon in a large chain department store. The ladies there only colored my hair and wraped it to style. Perms dried my hair and kept the edges broke off as did blow drying. Because of the chemical process involved one has to really treat the hair . Hot oil treatments and conditioning.
In my kitchen,I have been using an inexpensive shampoo. However, I condition with "elucence" although I prefer a nice leave-in. I have yet to find a leave in that works for me. Looks like they took many off the shelf.
"At One" made a leave in conditioner I use to use. I worked good for my hair but left an rancid smell after a couple of days. Whew ! . I now use a little "almond oil" that I picked up at the health food store between washings. This will work till I find the leave in for me.
I imagine with all hair textures and styles it is trial and error. Along with a little give and take here and there for the most part.

Hello Hugs,

Thanks for posting.

Yes you are absolutley right about trial and error. Although, may I suggest Pantene leave in conditioner. It does not weigh the hair down, keeps it soft and is not greasy. It is a spray and my whole family uses it. We love what it does to our hair.

Also realize that even though it is a leave in conditioner no matter the type your hair will need to be washed at least once a week. What happens is the conditioner does it's part but the hair oils and sebrum builds up.

It also has a nice fresh smell, not over powering.

Try it and see what happens. If you don't use any chemicals or heat but just want a good leave in conditioner Patene is the best I think.

Good luck and let me know the results.

I heard that hair products containing alcohol for permed hair is a big "no-no" is that true?

Not speaking from a professional POV, but I do know thsat alcohol is VERY drying. And that tends to be one of the biggest problesm people with perms face - dry and frizzies.

So using a product with alcohol in it would only make the dry problem worse.

But hopefully Lynne or Jase will come along and give you a more professional answer! grin

Yes, alcohol based products are big no-nos. They dry out the hair and cause it to be more brittle and therefore get more split ends and damage.

Thanks!!1 That confirms what I heard. It's hard to find products without alcohol of some sort in it. Any suggestions for a gal on a budget anyone?

well there is going to be small amounts of alcohol in most styling products as a evaporation agent. The key is to find one were it is LOW on the list of ingredients.

As for going on a budget and getting less expensive styling products... professional is better and in the long run CHEAPER!

I suggest Kenra, BioSilk, CHI, or Purology
