Ariel's got the voice, hand's down. And the movie is definitely my favorite.
But if we are going to talk about this from a strong women viewpoint - I gotta go with Jasmine. That girl knew what she wanted, she wasn't going to lie down for anybody, and she fought back!

I love Ariel, if you look at her character, she's extremley strong, she gives up everything to follow her dreams and manages to save Eric's life twice, while he can only return the favour once. My media lecturer tried telling everyone it was sexist ('the little mermaid') because she can't speak, but I completley changed her mind on that LOL. It's actually Ariel that judges Eric purely on his appearence - the best Disney cartoon IMO, as well as the best heroine. The music is fantastic, as is the animation, I could watch it over and over.

It's actually Ariel that judges Eric purely on his appearence I guess it is this little quality - and the fact that I view Ariel more as a teenager and Jasmine as a woman that gives me the difference in opinion. Mind you, Little Mermaid is my favorite movie by far - the music is amazing (although The Lion King is a very close second - but we are talking princesses here). Steven, will we never agree on anything?

LOL - Michelle, I missed your post before mine, funnily enough is Narla a princess in 'The Lion King'? I can't remember - I ddn't like the crude warthog in that movie LOL, and it's so sad when Simba's dad dies I love Jasmine too, Aladdin's my second fave Disney movie, I love it at the end where's she's trying to turn Jafar's attention "you're beard is SO twisted" LOL. And then when she grab's the lamp, "Sorry My dear, your time is up!" LOL. I think she's too far under her father's thumb though, and Aladdin has to save her loadsa times, from getting her hand cut off and at the end with the sand. She is great though - just in a different way. Ariel has always been just magical to me, I love it when she's singing on the rock "I don't know when, I don't know how etc" - it always gives me goosebumps LOL plus she really goes for it, trying to kiss Eric "She's good, too good - the little tramp!" LOL, and fighting against Ursula and her Father's wishes. I agree she's more of a teenage character, I think that's why I prefer her though - cos we all go through that defiant, I'm gonna do what I want stage LOL - always loved the bad girls HAHA

Mulan definitly, shes brave, she fights off the bad guys and saves everyone, she can take care of herself and she finds love, that right their is just amazing. But Then again Pocahantas is brave to and trys to help everyone and she finds love and she is always herself like in the second one where they try to make her into something tha she is not but she remains herself because she knows whats right! They are amazing, i wish i was like them!
Darci!

I vote for Mulan. That movie was pretty good. The Colors of the Wind song in Pocahantas was good, but Mulan shows more spunk in my opinion.

I liked Mulan, but the music was awful - nothing to remember. Plus, I don't like the fact that to prove she's a strong woman, she has to dress and behave like a man - it's a contradiction. It was a really great movie - but we had to analyze all of these things in Media Studies so I can't get those thoughts oughta my head LOL.
I hate, hate, hate Pocahantas - not the character, I feel sorry for her and admire her. But those disgusting Disney cartoons - they're a disgrace, thinking they can re-write history. The whole movie was historically incorrect. The second film is just an outrage IMO. Pocahantas was actually forced out of her homeland, kidnapped and dragged back to London where she died a horrible death - they left that part out, and trying to make John Smith into one of the good guys. They never should have invaded her land in the first place. I feel strongly that Disney should leave history alone unless they can tell the truth.
They should stick to Fairy Tales. Sorry for the rant - it is just wrong and bad in so many ways, for the native Americans and how they are represented in the cartoon, and also for teaching children incorrect history who will watch it and think that's what really happened.

Ah - but if Disney were to actually portray the fairy tales the way they were originally written, children and their parents would run screaming and crying from the theatres.

I agree LOL "and then Ariel threw herself to her death, and while doing so gained a soul - because Mer people don't have soul's children, but she does now cos she commited suicide so she can go to heaven - the end" LOL. Yeah, I don't think that'd go down well. LOL. But, I think it's fine to change Fairy Tales, but not history - I mean, this was a person's life - it's a big difference.
