I've posted this before, but since we've started including fiction here - Kate Forsyth is an Australian Pagan author and her Witches of Eileanan series is, although fantasy, apparently considered an accurate representation of rituals and beliefs. I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but I did read and thoroughly enjoy her children's fantasy book, The Starthorn Tree. Her website is here.

You know, I have always enjoyed the straight forwardness of Scott Cunningham when it comes to expository Wicca books. For fiction, if you haven't read Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon," you should pick it up. It's a take on the Arthurian legends from the King's half-sister's point of view, and incorporates a good deal of inter-religious elements.

I like:
* Phyllis Curott's Book of Shadows
* Starhawk's The Spiritual Dance
* The Language of the Goddess, Gimbutas
* The White Goddess, Graves
* Bulfinch's Mythology smile

As for fiction and police, I just finished reading a collection of stories by Laurie Drummond about women police officers in Louisiana. One of the stories, Keeping the Dead Alive, was about a Wiccan police woman and her fellow wiccan officers. The book is called Anything You Say Can and Will Be Used Against You. It's gruesome so if you don't have a strong stomach you probably don't want to check it out. I just thought it was interesting.

As mentioned by someone else, Justin I think, The Mists of Avalon is excellent.

This is a beautiful book. I believe the author describes it as the story of King Arthur from the women's view.

Froggie,

Yes. There's a series of the "Avalon" books that is heavily imbued with Paganism and a feminine perspective on the legend of King Arthur. A terrific read.

I'm currently reading 'Body Sacred' by Dianne Sylvan (author of Circle Within). I'm really enjoying it. It addresses women's issues with their bodies, and gives Pagan ways to identify and deal with them. It really gives you a lot to think about how we view ourselves and how society does as well.

I'm only about 1/3 of the way through it, and I already highly recommend this. Really, I think every woman should read it (men might get something out of it too, but it is geared towards women), even if they are non-Pagan. They might have to be more open-minded, but it still presents some really good stuff.

I'm a crystal witch, so many of my favourite books are to do with crytals, healing and suchthelike!

Judy Hall is an excellent writer, and her Psychic Protection book (Thornsons Way Of) is truly invaluable, especially to any sensitives.

The Crystal Bible is, of course, a staple of my bookshelf, along with the Crystal Handbook by Simon Lilly, Crystals, Colour and Chakra by Gill Hale and the Wheel of the Wiccan Year, which is wonderfully inspirational for a solitary like myself.

The Meditation Bible is good too - in fact, the entire Bible series, if i had them all, would be recommended!

I also have to recommend Grimoire for the Green Witch, by Ann Moura, as it is a fabulous book.

Step lightly,

Falcon

I've recently suffered from the loss of a loved on, which sparked the purchase of these two books:

The Pagan Book of Living and Dying by Starhawk et al is an excellent source for ways to to deal with such a loss. There are a number of beautiful poems and chants that I found to be especially useful.

Another book related to the same subject is Remembering a Life: One the Death of Your Beloved by Ann Keeler Evans. This lady is an interfaith minister, so there are some Christian themes in this one. But it is nothing preachy or anything like that. I liked her outline for preparing a eulogy. There are also a number of stories and examples in this book that I found to be very helpful..

So, if you suffer from a loss in your inner circle, I did find these books to be extremely helpful in letting go and finding closure. I guess I'm still working on the closure part, since it's only been about a month, but things are easier...
