2 drive bands - one from drive wheel & miner's head whorl. This should be the small whorl which should be towards the back of the wheel.
Second drive band from miner's head whorl around the spindle whorl.
A third cord goes from the top of the counter weight assembly (the curved metal bit that is opposite of the ball) to the foot pedal.
Spinning is exactly as on a great wheel excep the spinner sits to the side of the drive wheel to work the foot pedal. The pedal controls the pendulum arm. Depress the pedal slowly while drafting to move the pendulum arm away from you. To wind on, slowly release the foot pedal to bring the arm back towards you so it's ready for the next make. Note: keep control of the foot pedal when spinning - if you take your foot off of it inadvertently, the pendulum arm will swing freely and come up and whack you. Don't ask me how I know this
You need an extra 4 to 6 feet of length behind the wheel when spinning to allow for the motion of the pendulum arm.
