Gods. How long will it take us before skin melanin doesn't matter?

I guess we are growing in babysteps each generation.

We went to see the movie The Secret Life of Bees this weekend and it was really wonderful but quite shocking the LEVEL of OPEN racism that existed just such a short time ago. 1964. It's frightening. I do believe, and I am quite certain I am right about this, if that type of racism were still acceptable, we'd still have it. Because it still exists behind closed doors.

I don't get it myself. To me, skin color isn't any different from hair or eye color.

Right. I have olive skin. I am not sure what that makes me. I don't care much.

My DH is from Alabama. He says there are people there that will RIOT if Obama wins. That will try to undermine the government because they are afraid of what they perceive as a rising 'black superiority.'

Our species sure hates being dragged towards tolerance for all.

I don't think people here will riot, but I do think it will be upsetting to many.

Most people are private about their racism these days.

Racism is a form of ignorance and still a very part of our society. I have to disagree with the young lady that states that black people can't be racist. Being black myself, I have come in contact with black folk that are verbally and boldy racist. We do need to get over the "I stand behind my color" and we need to stand behind the issues we believe in, no matter who it comes from.

Anyone can be racist. It isn't limited to caucasians. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I am with most people here who didn't see any racism being expressed in those videos.

Depends on your definition of racist, hoaxie. According to what they are teaching us in college, you cannot be black and racist. You can be prejudice, yes, but not racist.

Now, this is all based on what they are teaching in my college today. Racism is a system of advantage based on race. AKA Prejudice plus power.

Based on the definition, according to the text, black people cannot be racist. They do not systematically benefit from racism.

That is what they are teaching in liberal colleges this very day. This came straight out of my textbook.
