Palin is a nightmare. She's not somebody who is going to make life easier or better for women. People assumed that Margaret Thatcher would be good for women in the UK, in fact she was the complete opposite.

Whether she has children or not doesn't come into it for me. Her home life is her business, in my view, but her opinions are surely enough to make anyone run a mile.

Hmm.... see, this is why I call myself "DifferentKindofGirl," because I'm a politically conservative CF person, and I'm guessing a lot of CF folks are liberal? I'm also a CF Christian, and a conservative concerned with issues like global warming, animal welfare, etc. Where do I fit in? haha :)

I am a liberal democrat and I agree with Jill and Live to Paint. I dont like Sara Palin at all due to her political views and I think she is bad for women and the country in general BUT Id never judger her personal life or her decisions as a mother.

I would think that child free women would want more choices for all women which would mean we woudl support mothers who want to work and/or mothers who want to stay home as well as child free people. I dont see anyone criticizing male politicians for working hard and obvioulsy spending time away from their kids why on earth should women be any different. Why should women sell their dreams short? Nothing annoys me more when women prattle on and on about other women's reproductive choices and make snarky comments. It happens all the time in the media and in everyday life.

It is unacceptable that you refer to Sarah Palin's baby son in a derogatory manner. That she had a prenatal diagnosis is something that Governor Palin shares with many liberal as well as conservative women who choose to have children with Down syndrome. Although I am thankful every day that Barack Obama is our president, my differences of opinion with Sarah Palin's politics do not extend to her parenting choices. Now, if she had decided to bring Bernie Madoff into the world, I'd take issue with that choice - but there is no prenatal test for that, is there?

The crushing economy inherited from Sarah Palin's political party disproportionately affects adults and families of children with developmental disabilities. This is a very bad time for most children with Down syndrome and Sarah Palin did create a climate where more people in America became aware of their potential and accomplishments. However, there was a Down Syndrome legislative caucus in Washington D.C. before John McCain picked her as his running mate.

Political differences and disagreement with Sarah Palin's family planning choices should not make life even more difficult for other families and individuals who are advocating for the civil rights and human rights of people with disabilities.

I am not American so I feel a little out of place here. As a rule I would say politicians' private life should play little or no role in politics. But I do not have the feeling such is the case in the United States, Obama goes to rallies with his lovely little girls, and Palin uses her family to make moral judgment about other people. Like: "Look, I am soooo pro-life that I have five children, I am sooooooo pro-life that I have a Down kid. Once you use your private life in politics it is difficult to keep people from judging you. No offence.
