Lisa it depends on the big ones. The sandwich ones SUCK. They are mealy and blechy. But a real good tomato is unforgettable when you have one. It's good enough to just eat, all by itself.

I had one in Atlanta once. Huge, deep red, heavy. We just ate then with a fork, knife and salt. I am still looking for this tomato again. smile

I like Big Mamma, it is a large Roma type, very meaty and delicious sliced. Oh! I can't WAIT!

I do love romas and cherries and grape tomatoes, all the "smaller" ones smile

I'm doing upside down tomatoes this year--Romas. I love the idea of not having to steak!
When I can figure out how to post pics of the setup and harvest I will!

I looked at those upside down rigs and was convinced all the dirt would fall out. We have cone shaped grids that you just stick into the ground around the tomato, and they grow up and through it on their own. So there's no tying or work involved, you just stick the cone around the little plant when it goes in and you're done with it. I'll post some photos soon too smile

The soil won't fall out because you put a coffee filter over the hole prior to planting. Brilliant, huh?

I will post pics if I can figure out how to do it!

I live in an apt and have tried to grow tomatoes in containers the last two summers without much success. The lack of sunlight is part of the problem but if anyone has any tricks for me I would love to hear them!

My favorites are also the smaller tomatoes - cherry and roma. Delicious! I love tomatoes right from the garden that are ripe and juicy. They are great sliced up in a tomato sandwich or even just cut on a plate with a little pepper. I've been wanting to make kabobs for the grill and cherry tomatoes are a must for that. I read a great article about taking All American Favorites and turning them into a healthy meal - kabobs is on the list and I've been wanting them ever since!

It was a good summer for tomatoes here in Missouri. Never had to water and they grew like weeds. Made 3 batches of salsa and had lots to eat with our meals.

Same here in No. IN, it's been hot and dry and the tomatoes love it. My red and yellow cherries are so plentiful I've been handing pint boxes out to all of my friends, and the third batch of bigger ones is roasting in the oven at this moment.
