Most of us avoid this thought at all cost! How do you think your life would change if you were to become severely disabled?

I know that I came close about seven years ago (too long of a story to get into it) but, I know now, I do not take one minute of life for granted. Being wheelchair bound is extremely difficult and your thoughts, feelings, and loss of self is unbelieveable. I will and do go out of my way to do anything for a handicapped individual (even if it is just holding a door, or even a passing smile) it means so much.

Hi Mary,

I know I have given it a lot of thought in the past few years. In 2003 I broke both bones in my ankle and got a taste of limitations. I think however, the disability of my sister really opened my eyes to how quickly and how much someones life can change due to disability. As result I am much more aware of those around me who are disabled and I certainly have more of a desire to help.

Thank you for that. I hope that I will not too soon be back in that chair, but I have experienced the changes of those around me, good and those that were also bad. Believe it or not, lots of nasty is out there!
