Hi, another way to get fibre into the diet is to add wheatgerm to your food. Make smoothies which will be full of fruit and add wheatgerm, not only will it give you the fibre but will boost your vitamin e as well. It can also be added to yogurt.

I would like to know how to increase fiber without increasing gas. This is a significant problem for me. What foods are good given these circumstances? I am new to this site.

I enjoy my salad daily and fruit with breakfast. My nutritional vitamins seem to really provide excellent fiber, along with my daily allowance of fruits and vegetables. It has really enabled me to have a healthy metabolism.

I use this nutritional data siteto check the nutritional content of food, including the fiber content.

It also tells you if the food is a great source, a good source or a so-do source of the nutrients listed.

HealthyMom62, The site you posted above seems really useful to check how your daily dietary fiber intake. Thank you!

Sometimes our basic questions may need to be answered such as
what is fiber, how much fiber is enough for me, health benefits of fiber in the diet, soluble and insoluble fiber food choices and more.

Nice short video explaining why processed foods are bad for you (processed usually has all the fiber removed). He gives a great visualization here.

Soluble fiber (in legumes, especially beans, also in oats, psyllium husk, oranges...) may prevent mild constipation AND diarrhea, especially one triggered by bile salts after gallbladder removal. Some people report how soluble fiber taken in the morning help them fight with IBS. Soluble fiber causes gas. Insoluble fiber (flax seed, wheat bran, mornig cereals with bran..) may prevent constipation, but not diarrhea. They should not cause much gas. Check this list of foods high in soluble and insoluble fiber . By merely adding fiber to your diet you won't lose weight or prevent a severe constipation. Active life style imay help in ,both though.
