I read that adding 10 grams of fiber to our diet will help us lose weight. I eat high fiber cereal every morning and also lots of fruits and veggies. My husband's mother had colon cancer so he's very careful to eat so he has a healthy colon.

My mom was a nurse and she said surgeons told her if people ate better, colon cancer could be a thing of the past.

My understanding is that there are two main types of fiber, namely "soluble" and "insoluble" and both are needed to essentially help pull toxins from the body and provide the bulk necessary to eliminate them. The product I've been using for nearly 15 years is a certified low-glycemic balanced fiber drink mix providing 14 sources of dietary fiber containing 12 grams of both soluble and insoluble fiber in each serving. I have to say, it has been working wonderfully well for me!

Lack of optimal nutrition and money are the root causes of all stress and disease. My global team and I have been helping people fix both for 15 years. To know more, email Info@HeathyWealthyAging.com

I'd love to add more fiber to my diet for the health benefits. But I am gassy enough! I can float a hot air balloon with just a 'normal' diet!

Hi there, I just visited this page looking for healthy food categories. Apparently I have a low fiber intake and I am suffering from various side effects of that. Now that I found this info on Bella's page, I have a few questions.

First off.
Off of the list of high fiber foods, I noticed these veggies that are high fiber...Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, and Carrots. The list specifies cooked. Is the fiber content lower if you eat it raw? I eat cooked broccoli but the others I can't. I will eat cabbage, cauliflower and carrots raw.

Second is with nuts. I assume that all nuts contain fiber, but is there a place I can visit to see all the nuts fiber value as well as other nutritional value? I like hazelnuts and spanish raw peanuts. I would like to know much fiber are in those as well as other benefits so that I can make sure I get the desired amounts I need.

Third...Which of the foods on the high fiber list wont increase gas. I have a rough enough time with that and would rather not increase it.

Thanks for answers in advance

I always try to add beans.. I've read adding flax to items can also help alot. Has anyone tried that?

For people who have gas, beans definitely increase gas so you could avoid those things and focus on other fiber-rich foods. Here are some other foods that are gassy -

Asparagus
Brussells sprouts
Broccoli
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Eggplant
Radish

They have a plant sugar in them called raffinose that your body turns into gas smile

There are pills you can take to counteract the gas if you want to keep eating these and not have gas issues!

Actually in terms of cooking, cooking a food breaks down the fiber, it gets mushy. So for example if you boil veggies you are typically losing fiber. However if you steam many veggies you make their vitamins more easily digested. So a lot of it depends on HOW you cook it.
